If the fan always draws air in from the outside. I did a test duct taping shut the inlet outside (just under the windshield) with both the button on and off and no air flows. Which leads me to believe the button does absolutely nothing...The air for a/c always comes from the exterior.

A problem when you live in the 3rd world and plumes of smoke surround the car.

If does initially but then recirculates that air and cleans it with air filters etc. Also colder air over the long run. Always good to run fresh every once in a while fro what I have heard - eliminates mildew etc.

Thanks. I tested your answer and still the same result ....I had the car on for an hour and taped the intake under the windshield shut, turned fan on high and got 0 flow. All air, recirculate on or off comes from the outside. Its a gimmick.

jcmicro - I'm going to have to into the problem you are having myself. I have a client that is wanting me to make some 40+ TLC's air tight (right now they are getting smoke bombed and burning tires thrown at them). I told him I cant make a TLC water tight let alone air tight so offered a ventilation system to remove smoke and chemicals but its high $$$.

I will show you pictures of how I mod the rear a/c to control the air between the ballistic steel and OEM headliner. You might be able to do the same by shutting off the passage in the firewall and cut the plastic housing to suck air from directly below the dash.

It would be an extrema modification and not sure you would want to trust this scope of work with just anyone. Have you contacted the manufacture of the armoring yet to see if they have come across the same problem and has a solution.

Or if you want I can try and put you into contact with people in South America that are also in the armoring biz and might be able to help you.

Thanks for the help xkennx. I have also thought of routing the intake to the cabin buts its pretty tight. Never even thought of the second unit in the back....I wonder where it gets its air from. I'd love and appreciate very much anything you can send me. Im pretty much a DIY guy as Ive given up on the monkey mechanics here. There are only two armorers in my country and both are $$$ and sh!t quality. My level III was $34k for the full package. (engine, suspension and brake mod was extra and I had it done at Toyota) My next car is without a doubt a factory armored package... None of these hassles, creaking, and wind noise at high speed. X5 security version.

I'm back in the UAE now and I'll send you pics of the a/c ducting work I did that runs between the ballistic roof and OEM headliner.

Damn for $30K (+ chassis cost) - you can get a full B6 with suspension.
(39mm BR6 ballistic glass and 6.1-6.5mm FB6/FB5 ballistic steel)

Great... Yeah thats what happens when you have no competition. they can charge just a little less than what it costs to import from the real armorers in Brazil and Mexico. I was quoted around $138,000 for a complete armored LC200 from Brazil and $180,000 from Texas. 5.7L (import tax and customs bribes included)
I would ove the pictures of your work please send them when you have time.
j c m i r o @gmail.com without spaces of course.

Thanks:cheers:
