We got my mom a CarPlay head unit for Christmas (yeah that long ago) and I’ve been digging off and on through the search, trying to figure out how to put the thing in, and from what I can tell, it usually requires some splicing and the wiring diagram and a whole whole bunch of other stuff.

Am I missing any recent plug and play solutions like harness adapters that would make this install a breeze?

I believe it’s a Pioneer head unit of some kind and it’s going into a 1999.

Have you reached out to Crutchfield? They are always extremely helpful and likely have a plug and play harness that will work or help greatly. Something like the harness below may be what you are looking for but you didnt list what stereo you had or if its a LC or LX. Metra has harnesses also.

My bad, 1999 LC. Don’t remember exactly what the head unit is. I think it’s a Pioneer double-DIN unit with CarPlay.

Turns out it’s actually a JVC head unit.

Problem is, I’ve been browsing Crutchfield and now I’m even more confused. The one harness they have says it’s only for use with iDatalink stuff and I have no idea what they’re talking about.

Any insights here? I’m just not finding anything that clearly tells me what to do to get this working.

What's currently in the 99 LC? OEM nav unit or ?

I'm working through this same type of project. Funny thing is, I kept an old double din pioneer from a 1998 truck we wrecked, and it's going in another 1998 truck we now have that still has all the factory bits in it. When I opened it up a year ago to plug in the pioneer I couldnt immediately figure it out, so back on the shelf it went. I must be missing a harness or something. Toyota did kind of a weird thing with power to the head unit by routing it through the amp, not sure why. I guess the harness will account for that, though.

Did you get yours installed and working?

Haven’t gotten around to it yet
