It’s time to think about upgrading my head unit from the old school flashing after market single din head unit I got for cheap from super cheap all those years ago.

Interested to see if anyone’s done something like this to their cruiser? I have a hzj105r standard, pretty stock except for lifts and wheels and 400k on the clock and all the fun that comes with that. My project at the moment is to get the cruiser to a point I can take it across/around aus on a 6-12 month road trip in comfort.

So something the 12inch that changes the entire centre console… or just a double din higher end head unit to get apple/android and reversing camera

Welcome to the 'mud...

The 105 is dead easy for aftermarket audio, I would look at a brand name Pioneer/Sony/Kenwood with AA/CP, and do a double din install. Aerpro has harnesses to make it easy to connect your existing speakers, and while you've got the dash open you could also wire for an aftermarket amp down the track (eg RCA leads). If you want something a bit more "exotic", I would look at a T'eyes CC3 - if your 105 has the wider (200mm) double din for the later years.

Here's how it looks in a Lexy
