What's the car equivalent of the Hundy?

I will make everyone mad and say 2005-2006 e320 CDI benz. Tank. And 35 mpg's or more and run for 500k miles. And fast.

I've got a 2015 Outback. It was mine before I got the 100, but I'll get it back from the wife after she gets another car. I love it. It's only the 4cyl. It's not fast, but neither was my 3fe 80. For road trips, it's the best thing ever. Drove from Phoenix to Estes Park, CO shortly after buying it. Averaged at least 32mpg the whole way. Has almost as much room as my Cruiser. Definitely more comfortable. Best adaptive cruise control I've tried.

just my opinion

Yeeeeah, gonna vote no way in hell on the Legacy or Outback. In process of ridding myself of the wife's old '00 2.5L Outback, and wife still has the '07 H6 Outback. People love the things for some reason, and it is one of the best AWD systems. But damn the stupid headgaskets they kept putting on the N/A 2.5s for over 10 years. Terrible design, and they had better ones from the turbo cars on the shelf that they didn't use. Besides that, the trannies would often get torque bind by 200K miles and shake the whole car in a tight parking lot. I'm just tired of replacing every damn thing on the '00 that has 185K, which has been my winter beater a while, and got the LC instead.
My wife's current H6 is far more tank-like than the 4 cylinder, but I've still had to replace every wheel bearing, control arm bushings, rear shock mounts, and a few other things by 140K miles.
I've heard the most recent issue with them is the CVT transmissions crapping out frequently. At least maybe they've figured out the headgasket and torque bind issues. But they just keep sticking with unproven designs and never fixing them, not up to the level of Toyota or Honda reliability by any means.
And yeah, big no to any modern BMW is my impression from all my BMW loving friends.

Not knowing much about Lexus LSs, that seems like it would be the proper car for you.

GS450h AWD

Ok, this guy knows what’s up ^^^^^

Thanks for the feedback so far guys. I can't believe how cheap early LS460's are? If that was a 2007 Hundy with 66K miles, it would be $28K - $30K+

I think there was a recall for valve seals in the '07 and '08 models. This involved a lot of work. Never liked the idea of all that work being done on an almost new engine. .

Love the LS. Have been an avid fan since 2000. The engine is almost the same as the LX/LC, so no need for double special tooling. Typically buy them at 10-15% of new cost. Not going to say much more, because I like to keep this a secret. ;-)

@lhommec13 is that an M5? If so, I've read many posts where the M5 mill is more reliable than the 4.4L mill in the 540i6 that I had. They must also beef up the chassis to handle all that torque unlike the 540i which loved to rotate ripping the power steering pump right off the block. Leaking valley pan gasket, exploding fans, electrical gremlins, abs wheel sensors - I could go on and on with what I went through with mine, but it was my DD and I did love it when it ran well.

I'm going to look at the LS460 AWD and GS350 AWD as possible replacements.
Yes, 2003 M5. Didn't know about the specific differences between this and the 540i6 but knew the M5 was beefed up in areas in general. I'm guessing it's a similar situation as your M3 vs common e36.

Definitely check out the LS and GS. I'd get another LS in a heartbeat if I were in your situation with your search criteria. Good luck!

We had a 2011 VW jetta sportwagon TDI that was made famous because of the illegal factory "tune" and frankly we wish we hadn't done the buy back and kept it. We put over 70k miles on it and never had any problems with it, ever. I serviced the DSG Transmission at the recommended intervals along with the fuel filter and engine oils, torque for days with the first gen CJAA and 40 to 50 mpg.

We currently have a 2015 outback limited with the 2.5l we bought with 6k miles, and have put a little over 16k on it.
Honestly, it's nice enough, gets great mileage regularly 32 to 34 mpg - mostly hwy miles.

The outback is a complete dog unless it is warmed up to operating temperature. Oh but, hey, at least there's a warranty for the cvt transmission for like 10 years or 100k miles.
All that said, I wish we would have looked for 3.6r version, but the price we paid for the 2.5 we couldn't pass.
We are currently browsing for something else.

P2 Volvo XC70. Mini Hundy as far as I am concerned. 200k on our 2006 am day it is in great shape.
Outside of my treasured Land Cruiser, I wear out Volvo’s. I just sold a 2000 S70 with 220k that could have easily gone 300k, and now I have a 2006XC70.

I will give a nod to some of the Lexus LS series cars. But that’s a lot of luxury, and too much electronics.

but Volvo’s run forever....

I put 90 miles a day on my grandpa gold 03 GS300. In the 100k I've owned it I have done the timing belt, fluids, and brakes and that's it. I got 70k out of the michelins that came on it.

The stereo is far better than it should be for its age. I do wish it was a hair quieter though.

Next will be a newer GS or an LS.

Yeah, a clean e30 might be a good choice. I’ve driven and raced a few, and fairly simple and decent.

What about a Crown Vic or Grand Marquis? Yeah, it’s ford, but it’s a big ole tank with a v8, lots of legroom, and goes 200 or 300k miles in taxi and police duty.

For what it's worth, our 1998 Honda Odyssey is rolling with 392,000 miles on it and offers plenty of space to keep your junk dry.

We pick up balikbayan boxes 24x18x24 and we can fit 10 of them in the little Honda. The 100 we can only fit 5.

Crown Vic definitely IMHO the most equivalent...
