What's different on a Sahara (Arab) edition 80?

I've seen several online for sale where I am at, but I can't find a standard list of what all this changes.

What I've seen:
Turbo Diesel
Rear AC
Console cooler
Rear bumper tire carrier

Am I missing anything else? Did the do a swing out tire mount for a reason? Is the sub tank larger or different on a Sahara vs. na/turbo diesel?

Just trying to figure it out. They are quite a bit more expensive here. I haven't found one with lockers yet, but if I do I'll try to snag it IF it's in good shape.

Thanks!

HDJ81 = JDM RHD 1HD-T 80 series. Other markets with the 1HD-T are HDJ80's I believe.

I assume you're from Aus originally?

Other than what you've already mentioned, the middle eastern models seem to have hood ornaments that I've never seen on other market trucks, lol. 1HZ diesels seem common there as well as the 1HD-T's.

Thanks! From the US living in SE Asia currently. We have vehicles from everywhere here, so it's hard to discern the details sometimes.

The Arab models, or GCC spec 80s will NOT be turbo diesels. They would be 1HZ IF they are diesel. The GCC market is 99.9% gassers, so the model you're looking at is probably not from the middle east. Probably a GEN market vehicle.

However, one quick way to know is if there is Arabic on the fridge console sticker (located on drivers side) if it's still there.

And to answer your previous question, all sub tanks are the same if it is equipped. 50 litre.

So are you saying that a GEN is a separate version, similar to the Sahara (GCC?) that does have a turbo diesel and similar Sahara options?

Thanks. Sooooo many of the LC's have had engine swaps here, so I'm trying to figure things out to get one as stock as possible.

This might help, take a peek at the VIN plate under the hood, and note the first 5 digits of the frame #.

HDJ8X = 1HD-T engine
HZJ8X = 1HZ
FZJ8X = 1FZ-FE
etc. The last digit of the 1st 5 is market specific.
1 = JDM
0 = most everything else it seems

That will tell you what engine the truck came with originally.

Anything that tells about the transmission? I found a nice 105, but it had the engine swapped, turbo added, transmission swapped to auto from manual, AND LPG system added. I ran away fast. :)

Tranny code is on that VIN plate as well, nothing to decode.

If you have access to the Cruiser, the firewall plate will still tell some details about engine at least ..

about 105 or they are 1HZ or they are 1FZ .. but according to my books never offered with 1HD-T engine family ..

Correct, never a Turbo that I can tell. But ALWAYS modded with a turbo here, at least all that I have seen. Wouldn't be bad if the workmanship and parts were quality. The hunt continues!

Find one like @boozewz with a safari kit, or other brand name kit that you can service.

The 100's here in Japan came with either the 2UZ or the 1HD-FTE.. And Ya..I thought the middle east got mostly gassers.

That's what I'm seeing here. I'm ok with Gas, but everyone here seems to love Diesel. I'm just unfamiliar with them.

Love the hell out of mine...haha....:flipoff2:

Out of curiosity, where are you looking for these vehicles? Is there an online classifieds you're using?

I'm interested to see what's out there. :)

If fuel is cheap you really can't go wrong with either gas or diesel.

I'm in Cambodia, and you don't want any of them :). Most come in wrecked or salvaged and get repaired here. The trick is to find one that has the least amount of problems :)

But! Feel free to browser khmer24.com search for "Land Cruiser" and "Landcruiser". Though, there's a 130% import tax, so when you see a 2016 for $140,000 don't have a heart attach ;)
