I am looking at a 97 CE emerald green FZJ with 161k miles, zero rust, proline bumpers front and rear, proline sliders. Has an ARB snorkel and a 4 inch lift (not sure which company) 35" BFG K2's (85%). Also has front and rear ARB air lockers and on board air. Mechanically the vehicle is sound, but I do not know what PM has been done recently. The driver seat has come apart on one seam, the plastic gears on the drivers sidereal need to be replaced and the passengers front window doesn't move...probably needs a new window motor and/or runners.

With all this in mind, what do you guys think is a fair price and a killer deal price?

fair price around 8-9K...Killer would be under 8K. The ARB front and rear with decent miles increases the value to me.

The torn leather is basically an assumed with these 80's

The little plastic gear for the seat runner is also an assumed and not expensive.

The slow window? Same deal...not a real price dropper.

Armor, Lift, 35's, ARB's installed and relatively low miles is where the value is on this one it seems.

Sounds like a $9500 to $10K rig being sold by a dealer. (mark-up)

determining factors will be:

Paint, Clearcoat condition
Knuckle and wheel bearing condition
Drive quality - (Vibrations, Clunks?)
How she runs...any smoke? What color?
Rust - how's she look underneath?
Throwing any codes?

So, $12.9K isn't INSANE...it's dealer priced...which is to say it's overpriced by about the amount you would assume a dealer would try to carve out for themselves.

It's a good looking truck but he is high on the price and the missing cats is another issue. Also funny he has fixes for some of the problems but hasn't fixed them. 8-10 could be fair as it is already pretty much built and under that your doing great.

Well, No cats is a plot twist....not being able to pass emissions drops the price. Guess it answers the "Is it throwing codes" question too.

What missing cats? I didn't see the OP post that. John

The original cat comes with the truck, and the seller has an O2 sensor fooler..has anyone used these before??? Whats the deal with them? It's a private seller, not a dealer, so hopefully will negotiate down.

I dunno, I wouldn't say the price is too high with that amount of accessories. Start adding up what all that stuff would cost you, even half that number for depreciation. Now figure the truck itself is worth $6kish, and he's not too out of line.

If it's in good shape.

I think $12,900 is a little sticker shocky, but if he'll negotiate down a bit, I'd say it's a good find.

Does it matter if the headgasket has been done yet?

Those would be the ones that arent there LOL
And he didnt, but the ad lists it. I was just being nice and not linking the add to save this guy from some vulture sweeping in on his find ;)

The bumpers are nice and different, never seen them in person to comment on their strength but the Venezuelans use their junk pretty hard so there is good hope for stout quality and a bonus you don't look like 87% of the other 80s on the road (arb)

And case in point. I got a simulator to fool the ecu but I never put it on....

Does it matter on HG? I'd say it matters in some fashion or another.
If its been done then perhaps it boosts your confidence to pay a little more. If it hasnt been done I'd say it would boost your negotiating potential. I wouldn't rule it out because it hadn't been done but its definitely a plus if it has.

Thanks for not linking the post, true gentlemen right there. I've been scouring the classified for months and this one seems to fit the bill. I don't know if the head gasket has even done, but if it hasn't, it wouldn't scare me off as I have done plenty of HG's before, just not on a 80. The only cosmetic issue other that the drivers seat is there is a small tear In the rear passenger door liner. I would likely replace the whole panel though.
