Easier to have with an intercooler too, than almost-impossible than with TRD Supercharger ...

FWIW, I now have a TRD S/C but it's for the Sequoia :flipoff2: and I'm awaiting for the CPUs for the 2001 UZJ-100...

That turbo system looks sweet. I would be concerned about the mud/water factor when mounted out back.

Interesting.... turbochargers are driven by heat, the less heat, the less efficient. That's quite a bit of tubing to be filling with air.... you should inquire about how laggy the system is. Though it is a big engine, so it may not be too bad.

Neat idea, but off road that airfilter would get trashed with dust dirt, or literally smashed :'(

Everybody speak highly on Safari 80 series turbo. Why not try their V8 kit? Safari turbo for 2UZ-FE

I've been trying to for at least two years now :( There is only one installation I know of that, and it was done in a high-end Southern California custom-garage shop --and my impression is that there was some bad business between them and Airpower Systems. Next reason I got was that it won't pass California emissions requirements, nor would AP exert any effort to fix it. But the current reason I get from them is that they need a batch of 25(?) to make a set for anybody. They used to make that mainly for their Saudi Arabian customers, but not anymore.

I think they just keep that webpage to spite us customers. >:(

BTW, I know totally nothing of the Safari turbo customer. I just saw some pics of it and that the SoCal shop admitted to me their experience with it. I wish I could get in touch with that customer and buy their turbo from them :)

One more thing: I think that even the wizards of SleeOffRoad.com tried to get 'em for the Tundra, but failed.

6 little words fo that pic Drexx

[glow=red,6,600]WTF WERE THEY THINKING?[/glow]

I have been trying to get some kits I have had on order for nearly 18 months for Christo..... and "no longer in production unless you order 25, or you sit in the que until they have orders for 25" is the APS/Safari line currently..............

Actually turbos operate better with cool air.

Yes they do! On the comressor side.... However, the turbine side needs exhaust heat to drive the compressor, 500 degrees less is significant.

You know what the problem with Safari is? They don't want to take the risk of selling their own poducts and worry about selling all of the ones that they made. A bunch of p*ssies are running the company over there. I'm sure if they built just 10 units and sent them to Christo, they would sell in 6-8 months tops, with ease. This situation tells me that they aren't comfortable confident within their own products that they can't and will not sell them, themselves. Pathedic.

Sammy, sorry, that is way wrong. The 80 series petrol turbo system is no longer in production cause the 80 series petrol vehicle is no longer in production (other than venezuela?). I have spoken several times with sales managers and parts managers at APS and trust me, they are exceptionally professional and exceptionally proud of their product line and are completely confident in selling them all throughout the planet. The turbo system production runs roughly correlate with the specific vehicle production runs and since the 80 series is not in production, the turbo systems for the 80 series are not either. This is more than just an arbitrary rule with APS, the reason they do this is that most of the turbo systems are sold to the Middle East, Far East Asia, South America, and Africa, probably roughly in that order. In these areas when the model run of say an 80 series is over, most people with the money and means to do so upgrade to the next model run. So, when APS stops production and removes all the tooling and such to make this super vehicle specific turbo system, they need a really good reason to go through the trouble and to go through the cost to goto production another time. Ergo, the 25 unit minimum.
Dont get me wrong, it frustrates me to no end that they wont make more units for North American export...I'm sure the market for these superb turbo systems is stronger in NA than it is anywhere on the planet at this point. The problem is that APS is essentially asking the NA market to 'prove' this with the minimum order and so far 'we' have not done so satisfactorily. Dont mistake all this for them having a lack of confidence or business bravado, it is just the way it is. The make a super product and they know it.

Im sure anyone with afew dead presidents laying around could order 25, and sell them, making a little "holiday spending money" through the US, as at least 10-12 have expressed interest here, afew on ebay, afew to resellers, and then do the V8 100 next, as that is one sweet torquey engine with the APS turbo and intercooler.

Dude, this "minimum 25" reply to all serious inquiries might as well be recorded on tape to be replayed over and over again. Or at least put it up on their website. It's such a canned response.

But more importantly, why put the burden of collecting the minimum production requirements on the individual buyer? That's the job of their product manager! And why limit it to Land Cruisers? Why not sell to the Sequoia's and the Tundra's as well? Collectively, I guess they're a bigger market than all the regions just in the Middle East and Australia. I think the problem may not be in their technology, but maybe they're just scared of taking risks (even calculated risks). Where's their entreprenueral spirit that got them started in the first place?
