What you be a fair price to pay for a 1995 FZJ80, no diff locks, leather, 180k, ARB front bumper, slee's rear bumper, 2.5" OME Heavy lift? The owner says it is well maintained by the factory. I only got about 9-11k to spend. Am I out of my league with this one or in the ball park. Thanks guys!

what factory is it maintained by?

a lot of mods for no lockers --

-- a lot of miles, too --

$9K

Personally if you have $11K to spend, try to get it...don't take yourself out of the running just because you don't think you have enough...make them tell you no.

Doesn't sound like a bad vehicle...just a few numbers to run, ARB bumper $650+, Slee's rear bumper (if with tire carrier) $1700+, OME lift $650+, so there is a fair amount of accessories on it.

I hope the owner didn't actually say well maintained by the 'factory'? Dealers maybe, not the factory. Ask about all repairs/preventative items. If nothing more if you ask questions they can't answer (knuckle joints, u-joints, wheel bearings, fluids, radiator flushed, etc), it almost makes them lower the price, since you are pointing out flaws in their reasoning or pricing.

I would certainly try to get it, what do you have to lose? If you don't have the vehicle now, the worst that could happen is you won't get it...

Thanks guys!

I meant by maintained by dealer, not factory, my bad. I will move forward then. Thanks.

In my opinion the stock lockers are what really make the 80's so great. i would rather have that truck stock with lockers than its configuration right now. If i were you i would wait and find with lower miles and lockers. Mods can be dealt with later.

Finally part of the crew! Congrats!

I just sold my 95 Dark Green FZJ80, so let me give you some information for comparison. I'm a nut when it comes too vehicle care. Mine had 136K miles on it alway garaged, no lockers, had everything else on it including leather. It was born and raised in Atlanta Ga. never taken off road. Synthetics through-out, and all fluids changed based on severe service interval (even brake fluid). All new belts, hoses, wires, Phh, OME shocks. No rust looked like new. BFG AT/KO's with another 40K miles left in them. You could get in this LC and drive cross country with no concern. I sold it for $9500. Hope that gives you an idea of what you should pay when you buy one.

Did you sell it for $9500 because that is all you could get out of it, or you thought that was a good medium value for it? I'm curious because I just looked in our paper here in Denver, 3 95's in it, cheapest is $13500, and I guarantee you not one of them is even close to the level your's was (maintenance, clean, etc). I realize those are 'asking' prices, but when I was looking a few years ago, many people would not haggle on the price, any Land Cruiser is a goldmine around here and a very desired vehicle, and dealers usually get what they want for it.

Good Luck,

Pit,

Other than your vehicle not having lockers (not important if the person wasn't taking it offroad) and maybe being green, it sounds like someone made out like a bandit. I paid $10,800 for my '94 w/150k. Granted my vehicle was in exceptional shape and had lockers, but now I feel like I paid way too much.

Another reference point for you.
Paid $12k for my 94 w/93k miles & lockers last December. It was clean with service records and had spent the first 85k of its life in Georgia. I didn't even negotiate with the seller. They seem to go cheap in my area. If I were to sell it right now I would ask $15k, but then again, I don't want to sell it.

Things are cheaper here in the Ozarks (lowest cost of living in the country), I had it in the paper with an asking price of $11,000 and not one call. As you can see MoJ got one with lockers under 100K miles for $12K. I think location plays a major part in the price. Plus most people don't care for a vehicle like I do.

yup, most folks don't know M1 from dino p!ss...
