I just got this yesterday with a parts rig and was wondering if anyone knew what transfer case I have?
It has a Muncie 4 speed trans and an advanced adapter mounted to the transfer case. I was thinking it might be an advanced adapter transfer case but I’m not sure.
I would like to sell it or trade it for parts
What would it’s value be? What would be a fair price?

Looks like the standard one piece transfer case with an aftermarket back mount that uses the rear cover bolts.

Well the nose cone indicates early 1 piece case but the size of the studs on the e-brake look to be a later 1 piece case.

You transfer case should have a serial number and date code on the right side. The high low shift lever not only has it been extended it would not have been going to the left. To the right or towards the front or 4/75 or newer.

Need better drivers side pics but is that a Muncie transmission? Depending which variant, that’s where the money is at. Unless you’re using that.

Looks like a great case to have and use for an Orion build!
I’m not looking to build another Orion. I’d be interested it for parts to rebuild my ‘73 3 spd case. Although another orion would be nice…

You should provide some measurements to aid in identification. And post the #'s in the pic such as the one above this GM 3932640?

What's interesting to me is that the AA adapter has a shifter of some sort INSIDE it.

That’s a Muncie 4 speed. (Pretty sure anyway). Muncie had the reverse shift shaft in the tail housing while Saginaw had it in the side cover. Depending on the variant and any stamped ID numbers on it (not cast numbers), some go for decent money to Chevelle/camaro/corvette guys looking for correct cast and stamp numbers for their cars. They are losing a little favor these days but to the right guy(s), that’s still a $500-1000 tranny; depending on the numbers.

The 2 numbers to check are what’s in the pic. Blue arrow points to casting number of the main case that narrows down what it could be. Then the circled stamped numbers are the partial vin of the car it came from and that’s what matters. Then…. The guts could be from anything but with any luck a good vin stamp still has the good guts.

Post here and I can look up decoding it.

Thanks so much for your help. I’ve never seen this on a cruiser setup before.

From that stamp, the case was built in the Muncie plant (P), in 1970 (0 since this looks to be a 67-74 case), build month of September (P), 26th day and the A identifies what gear ratio set came in it. “A” would be a 2.52 first gear, wide ratio M20.

I believe this would’ve come from a passenger car from a 1971 model year. The M22 “rock crusher” is the one most people seek out but the wide ratio M20 has a better gear spread I feel (I have one in my Chevelle so could be biased….). I also ran an M20 in my second FJ40 behind a 396 Chevy big block and liked it.

I don’t see the vin stamp next to that date stamp so it could be a counter replacement or the vin stamp could be on one side where the trans mates to bellhousing.

There’s also groves on the input shaft and spline count differences to narrow down more.
