I have HannaQuality sliders on my 80, and as of right now they are torqued as high as I can physically get them. Is this the wrong approach? What should they be torqued to? Thanks.

Not that it is right or wrong but on my Slee Step Sliders I torqued to 55 pounds. I figured they needed less than the lug nuts (76 or 78) but more than wrist tight which is probably like 40 pounds or so. So far I've had no movement on them despite some pretty serious blunt blows from under. HTH

Well could over tightening cause problems?

Yes just as bad maybe worse than under tightening, a bolt that is stresses by the tension of torque has less strength left over for holding things together.

A simplified example: if a bolt can hold 2,000 pounds and you place 1500 pounds of tension on it by tightening, it would only take a 500 pound load to cause the bolt to break.

You can find general torque values on the web, you need to find out the grade and diameter and thread pitch of those bolts.

Why don't you just give old hanna a call, he built them :flipoff2:

LOL!
Yeah...I'd guess that the guys at Slee Offroad would suggest that you check with Hanna.

Not to be dicks, but probably because they may not know what type of bolts Hanna uses.

I will just have to give ol slee a call then.

Wow, I am just so damn use to dialing up ben or christo. Honestly though, the guys at hanna don't really answer the phone too often it seems, so I might just call Slee anyways and act like I have theirs :D

torque the slider U-bolts to 50 ft lbs.

Right now we are really busy finishing a custom 80 for Cruise Moab

We are usually making noise in the shop and therefore might miss the phone, but if you leave a message on the voicemail we will return the call same day if not the next.

Not a problem, I know ya'll are in the shop a bunch, which is a good thing in my mind. Mainly the reason I don't bug you guys with minor questions.

Great sliders though, and be awaiting a call for a rear bumper.

I think I remember Ben telling me he doesn't read this board, but Christo and Robbie sure do. :D
