Thanks, Chris...I'd like to check that out too.

How's your M101 coming? I haven't seen it since our long night assembling the three trailers back in 2006 when they first came in.

CBmontgo

here are mine mounted on split rims now. they are Dunlop Radial Rovers R/T 235/85-16's. cost about $140 each on www.tirerack.com

as per the other pics i posted above, that beautiful CDN M101 is not mine and I beleive that is a Unimog in the background pic?

Roberto-How does that tire work with the trailer all loaded up. Looks like not a lot of suspension travel until the tires get into the box.

Chris-Trailer is plugging along. Big build starts after roundup to get ready for CO in August.

not sure, i have not run it loaded yet, with 9 leafs per side I dont know how it will ride loaded? I think it will be somewhat bouncy no matter. I could always take some leafs out though.

It will hit the frame (i mean axle to frame) before the tires touch the fenders. But trailer suspension or at least the m101 is beefy, for load capacity. Empty i would think the suspension doesn't travel more then a 1inch.

I have a CND M101 with the original Michelin 6.5 R16's, the treads are in great shape but there is some cracking on the side wall. I have been trying to find the same tires to replace it but with no luck.

The 235/85R16's others have posted do look pretty nice but I really want to keep that stock look so I have been thinking about the military reproduction tires from Coker.

All of these tires require a tube and the current tires are tubeless, so my question is can I put tubes into my current rims? What are the drawbacks of running tubes vs a tubeless tire? Has anyone here done this swap and what are your impressions of the coker tires?

Yep it will be traveling to canyonlands if I can get it in travel shape by then! I am afraid to run the original tires into the maze, I dont think AAA will be coming to my rescue if the sidewall blows open.:hillbilly:

Just to follow up here, I ended up installing 235/85/16s last summer and took the trailer fully loaded on about 2,000 miles of driving and it did great...no rubbing at all and looks much better in my opinion...

PO has 255/85/16's and they are too tall for my taste. Would love to sell them and put on 285/75/16's to match the truck.

Rock_Wagon,
Looking forward to the pics of the Cooper Coursers. Do you know what rim width these fit?

Well, it's not a CDN M101 or M416, but a US M100 with an SOA.

As an expedient, I swiped the tires and rims off of my beater trailer made from a pickup.

These are Nankang P225/75/R15 Load Max Radials - Trailer Service Only. They're overkill as far as a jeep trailer is concerned, being rated at 2540 lbs each.

The reason they are for trailer service is that the sidewalls are stiffer. This means less flex and less trailer sway. However, this also puts less tread in contact with the road during braking and turning, which is why these tires should not be used on vehicles. But this also means there is less rolling resistance, so you use less power to pull a trailer with these tires, and that improves fuel economy a bit.

The tires are also tougher, and are more bruise resistant than regular tires, though heavy sidewall lugs on an offroad tire would accomplish the same thing.

I'm not sure if I'll keep them on this trailer, or will switch at some point. But for now you can at least see the size and how they look.

Roberto whats that sweet green rig in the background?

Yep, a Unimog. Probably a 406 or a rebranded Case MB4/94. Amazing trucks as they can tow 20 tons (you used to see them at airports pulling 747s). All that in something only 13ft long, or about the same length as a Jeep Wrangler. Crawler gears can go down to an unheard of 4000:1 so your tach'd out motor will move you a few hundred feet or so in an hour - but you're moving a mountain :steer:

More specs at Unimog 406 Specifications

Found them at the same place I bought the trailer from. A local used car lot that also gets some Iltis and M101s on occasion. I got those tires around 2 years ago. They weren't cheap though. About $150 ea.

Which used car lot? I'm in Winnipeg and am looking for an M101 trailer.

Some old Bridgestone dueler AT's on 15x7 Cragar D-windows. They cost me $60 for the pair mounted and balanced at the local used-tire slanger. I chose the size so I could run them as spares during expeditions if the normal spare goes, and LT for the stiffer sidewalls.

The wheels match the other heep.

I still have my factory/stock Michelins, but may replace them this summer due to a long trip I am taking the trailer on. The dry rot and cracks concern me a little, although I know these are some tough tires.

So...if you have replaced your stock tires and still have the steel rims, what are you running?
On a similar Miltary style trailer I'm running new Firestone military 700x15 priced at 176 each including tax, mounting, balancing and insurance.

Doug, w6jds

I'm running replacement rims with a military tire, the rims were on the trailer when I bought it

Good luck with your choice
