What tires y'all use'n?

Going to keep the 17" wheels. Would like at minimum a 285 but prefer a 295. The cruiser is used as an expediton rig. Interstate/pavement to desired area; Death Valley, Canyon lands, San Juans then on the trails for a week at a time. So, want a tire that travels well in both environments & yields reasonable wear. Looked at Hankooks but don't have any experiance with them. Have bfg AT/KO on my j**p but was looking for a better product. Anyone with Nittos? Other suggestions? Thanks, Jim

Take a look at the Goodyear MTR's, i've got roughly 4 thousand miles on mine and haven't noticed much wear at all.

I am running a Cooper Discoverer STT clone called the Dick Cepek Mountaincats.
They are made by Cooper in fact for Cepek.

Great tires, they ride smooth, and have a nice low hum to them.

Mine are stock sized, and with my new OME lift, they still look good.

I've got Toyo Open Country A/T's in 285/70/17 on my stock rims and am happy with them so far; much better off road traction than stock, decent highway manners (lower gas mileage but no more noise than stock). I've got about 9,000 miles on them and there's not much wear that I can tell.

A bunch of the Copper State Cruisers are running Nitto's, they work very well in our terrain. I have had 295's on the LX for 2.5 years and love them. Nitto is a Toyo brand, the Terra Grapplers and Open Country A/T's are almost twins.

I don't know if the Revo's are still in national backorder but if they're not I'd get those. From what I've heard every owner I've wheeled with that had the couldn't be happier, and the critics ratings back them up.

I'm running the BFG MT/km and the traction is great, but I think the 35" size looks great but would like to go down to a 34" MTR, a tire I have grown to love after running them on my last 3 trucks.

I'm using the Nitto 295/70r/17 terra grapplers and they are great on and off road. Had to trim the front mounts to fit them.

I'm using the 34" Goodyear MT/R's, they have always worked well running them over the past 5-6 years in the same places as you want to go.

well i am running 285/70R17 Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armer and Im Vary happy with them great in snow/mud and also Very Quiet

I also recomend the silent armor (if you go with the 285s, as thats the biggest they go for a 17 wheel). I have been running these on my 89 and they are definitely quiet on the freeway, and as the fella up in Canada knows, they really do well in snow and ice. I am making the same decision as you, and identical uses intended for my FJ. If I go with 285s they will be Wrangler SAs

I am running cooper stt 285-17. They performed excellent in dirt, rocks, and mild muddy situations. I tested them hard this weekend filming bighorn sheep in the snow. They dont seem to cleanout as well as Id like but I probably should have been chained up. also 15,000 miles mostly offroad and no flats(knockonwood)

I went with the Hankooks. The have a nice growl to them and for $158 a tire in a 285, you can't go wrong. If you are looking for a MT go with the Hankooks. They come with a 50K mile warranty from Discount Tire. Just make sure you rotate them.

I still have the stock tires on my Cruiser. However when I lift it, I'll be going with 34" BFG Mud Terrains. I have them on my 40 and they're awesome. Traction is great, and never have to worry about flats. Once I got a nail in one and saw it in there. Since I saw the nail, I took it to NTB and told the guy to take it out and patch it. He came back in a while later and said "Do you want me to take those 12-15 other nails out and patch them too?" I was intrigued and went out with him to look. Seems I had gotten a LOT of nails in my tire and the heads wore off and the nails plugged the holes themselves. So I said "Let's take em all off and have a look. Every tire had a lot of nails in it from off roading, but they never lost air. I'm sticking with a proven tire. As well, the rubber isn't TOO soft and wears long..

I'm digging the 285/70/17 Firestone Destinations I just got. I have not had them long so I can't give you a longevity report, but they sure do make the FJ stick to everything it's on.

I have been looking to go with the Toyo MTR in a 295 but am also considering the 305/70/17 goodyear MTR or the Hankook MTR anyone know how well those will fit on a 3 inch lift. Also how do you guys like the Toyo? Its a 10ply so that may be a little too much for the Fj

Im using 285/70-17 mtr's like them a lot, totally change the look and attitude.
