I just did a thorough tuneup on my 60. When the 60 is turn on, it purrs really nice. However, when I drive it give me a dft dft dft dft. I did a valve adjustment and got the knocking out and replaced ALL gaskets but what the heck is this?!?!

Be a little more specific. Does it still run good when it's making that noise, or does it stumble? Vacuum line? Can you pop the hood & hold the throttle on the carb at the approx rpm's & see where the noise is coming from?

sounds like a valve to tight maybe. i would check them again, possible valve wasn't closed all the way when it was set

If it is not metalic/mechanical in sound, it could be the old egr gasket/pipe leak,
totally uneffected by your tune up if it is, just a coincedent that it would go at this time.

Could the "dft dft dft" be a "pfft pfft pfft? Does it speed up with the engine? Exhaust leak?

Probably correct. Check the J pipe. If it is leaking, your rig will run better when it is repaired. This is a common fault.

Sounds like an exhaust leak at the manifold. It can either be the manifold gasket, the j-pipe (the pipe in which the EGR cooler connects to the exhaust manifold), or the exhaust flange (prolly a bad gasket in there). Either way, it's not terribly serious, but you can start getting some fumes in the cabin and may affect performance if the leak gets bad enough. Moreso if it is the exhaust manifold gasket itself because it is also the intake manifold gasket and it could cause a vacuum leak. From what you describe it sounds like a simple exhaust tick and if the truck is running fine I wouldn't worry too much about it. A valve that is too tight will cause more performance issues rather than noise. A valve that is too loose will make a slapping noise. Your truck should sound like an old sewing machine when the valves are adjusted properly.

the tech: great first post... real helpful.

Sounds like muffler bearings to me.
