So because you name is joeyg1973, am I supposed to think that you are working on a 1973 with a clip-on connector at the speedometer cable?

No I was born in 1973... my 40 is a 1971... but I have the cluster from a 79... so I can go either route.

Thank you for providing some more information.....

83710-69105 is the Toyota part number for the 1979-1984 40 series speedometer cable that is 2100mm long, or 6.889 feet.

When I installed an H55 in a 1979 40 series, I ordered a speedometer cable for a 1979 40 series and it worked just fine.

http://www.cruiseroutfitters.com/engineparts.html lists several lengths, too.

Part# SPCB69105 (Fits 9/77 - 1/79 FJ40) - $22.50
(89"/2250mm OAL,, clip-on at speedometer)

Part# SPCB69106 (Fits 1/79 - 10/84 FJ40) - $25.00
(83"/2100mm OAL,, clip-on at speedometer)

(Use Part #SPCB69105 for extended length drivetrains)

Is there one that will work for the original one from 71?

Remove the speedometer from the 1979 cluster and install it into your 1971 cluster. There is not a speedometer cable made for the early, thread-in style speedometers that will reach the drive on the H55/split case combination.

There WAS, but it is no longer available.

For some reason, the one for the 45 pickup is over a foot longer than the one for the 40, even though the t-case is the same distance from the speedo head in both rigs.

Best
