I am doing a survey to see what size fridges most people buy or want to buy.

The most common sizes are 35ltr, 45ltr, 50 & 52ltr, 60-110ltr.

.

It's a 43 from Edgestar, but 45 is close enough for me.

60-110 is a bit of a large range there. Around 65 is common size I think. Much over that probably pretty uncommon.

you buy one...you're going to want two, one to freeze and one to cool.

I went 45 and 35 engels

Some folks just don't wanna give up their ice cream...;)

Hmmm, never thought of that.:D

It's not the ice cream...it's the ice for the scotch!

On long trips it is SOOOO nice to have a freezer but I find you still need the fridge.

The 60-110 liter fridges all use the same footprint. I'm trying to get a better feel of what size fridge or fridge footprint is most popular.

In reading MUD and the Portal it seemed a lot of guys were talking of buying the 60 liter fridges; just wanted to get a "boots on the ground" feel.

How long are you planning to be out and what types of things do you cook with? That will determine what will work for you.

If you want a couple dozen wobbly pops cold all the time, you need to go big. If you are just going to keep the milk and cheese cold for 4 or 5 days then that's a different option.

I do find, even with our "smaller" 45L that you end up digging through the top layer getting to the bottom. We have a basket that we use sometimes but then you can't put taller items in. I am not sure how that would come into play with the 60L+ fridges.

Don't forget about access as well. The bigger the unit the taller it is and can be a bear opening lids and actually seeing inside. I looked at one of those add on sections for the engels but it just made it impossible to get into off of the tailgate.

45 Engel...it's all I can do to lift loaded myself into the truck...I think I would need 2 people for or 60..(or at least get my fat ass back in the gym)

we went with a 90L from NL..
Fridge/freezer combo.... it's huge but it fits...
True about having a freezer specially on trips lasting longer than 2 weeks....it's awesome, can't believe we went this long without one.....
True also about the hard access to it......
it's a biotch but it has to do for now until I can afford to buy a drop slide or make my own

While ice cream is a must for proper Death by Breakfast on the trail,:D I'd die if I had to go a week without quality beef.

Where there's a will, there's a way. Long before portable freezers came about I was wrapping many layers of bubble wrap around a block of dry ice with the frozen steaks and ice cream. Today, I'd use the reflective bubble insulation instead. The things we do to surprise friends in the backcountry.

Freeze 1/2 gallon cartons of ice in the freezer and put them into the cooler. With the turbo freeze mode it should be possible to freeze down a gallon or more each day while driving or operating off of a solar panel. That way you wouldn't be freezing off of battery power.

Runnin the Waeco CF-50 myself. Luvin it.

Thanks for the input everybody!

I'm getting ready to go into production for my second run of Jumbo Slides and needed to get an idea who is buying what.

The Jumbo fridge purchases are not huge, but more popular than I thought.

I have a 35 liter fridge and it is heavy to move around when full, so I really feel for those of you who have the big fridges! However it is nice to have all that cold space.

As a Thank You for participating; if you mention this survey when ordering a TemboTusk fridge slide, I will throw in a set of Buffalo Straps for free!

I have had the Norcold 60ltr for years and love it. Just bought a new 45ltr Norcold as well and I do not like it near as much as the 60ltr. Go for the big one.

As for features I was unpleasantly surprised to see that the new Norcold 45ltr does not have both AC and DC sockets-plugs-cords. On my 60ltr I have an AC cord that I plug in and the unit automatically stops drawing DC and uses AC. On the new one there is a single socket and a cigar lighter plug. I have to unplug the cigar plug from a power point and plug it into an AC converter then plug that into an extension cord. For this reason I would not get a new Norcold. Find a unit that has both plugs.

35L is a good size for 2 people and careful menu planning. Have done a 5 night/6 day trip in the Maze with it and it was perfect.

As room was made in the fridge we transferred beer from the cooler to the fridge.

I have not tried to move my 63L fridge when full and have no intention of doing so. Can't be so great for the handles. And likely would not be able to do that without banging things up. It's not hard to fill it up when it's in position in the truck, why not do that? I don't see hard carry as an issue and that would not be a reason for me not to get one. Taking space in the cargo area is a real issue, though, of course.

Anyone want to trade a new Norcold 45 for a older 60+ liter? I just like the bigger ones better.
