Why anyone would buy LX?

I guess that the only things in favor of LX: semi-aniline leather, more power from different tuning, Mark Levinson Reference system, and (maybe) higher quality materials inside.

GX has several things over LX: price for one, same size (aka you get more for your money), off-road capability, probably more accessories, no need for AHC to get decent angles, better dash design, arguably better styling (personal choice), and an actual rear bumper!

GX now has same tow ratings as LX. Same size. Basically same powertrain with different tune. Same platform.

So is Lexus looking to kill off LX with next refresh cycle?

I hope not. I would agree that they are very close now, in specifications. However, if Amd from The Car Care Nut is correct, it still carry’s the over-built construction of the 200 series. I saw this translated video copied here (I think) that supports that notion.

I have a 200 series LX which is great, and have a new LX on order (keeping the 200 series) as I think the 300 series will be as reliable. That said, anything coming out of the Tahara plant will have excellent quality. It does seem that with such small differences between LX and GX it makes you wonder if they plan, long term to leave it in the US line-up.

I think with the TX coming in as the bigger 3 row as well, the LX is in trouble. It'll be the last generation as a Land Cruiser either way because Toyota said that all Lexus are going to be EV by 2030. So, maybe it doesn't matter.

Toyota didn't listen to the dealers. Their number one request for the last decade has been a full size 3 row Escalade competitor. And Toyota refuses to build one. The TX will be super popular I think. A full size LX would do really well I think along side the new GX and TX. But the current LX doesn't make much sense anymore.

Higher GX trims have the ML & semi aniline leather…..I suspect the real differentiator is that the Lx will have a more luxurious interior (eg real wood instead of the Gx’s fake wood, leather in place of the nuluxe trim pieces, etc

I don't think any Lexus has fake wood???

So the argument for the GX making the Lx inappropriately redundant could have been (and was) made with the Gx460 and LX570. Half the cost, same three rows of seats (maybe an inch more room for cargo behind the LX570 with the third row occupied).

But there was simply no comparison. The ride, comfort, and prestige of the LX570 far surpassed that of the Gx460.

I suspect it may be similar for the next GX. I'll predict a bit less noise deadening, not as soft a ride, and a slightly less high quality interior with the GX550 compared with the Lx.

That being said, I'm watching the GX and upcoming landcruiser closely. High possibility of trading in the LX600 on one or the other.

No. GX460 was basically a fancy 4runner. LX570 was a fancy LC200. Totally different platform between GX460 and LX570. Just look underneath and you see huge differences. Different dimensions. Different tow capacity. Different payload. GX460 had inferior clearances. Had inferior RTI. etc.

All differences above between GX460 and LX570 are basically null with the LX600 and GX550.

Look underneath…..LX vs GX tie rod.

That’s why…..

470/460

I suspect the differences in new generations will be similar. Prado has always been considered light duty by Toyota.
I doubt it. Same platform between LC300 and GX550. Same size. Tow rating the same...8000 lbs. Same E-KDSS.

In fact, from my viewpoint, GX550 is more LC300 than LX600.

GX460 and LX570 were never this similar.

Has anyone compared these components on a 200 vs 300? That may be a clue as to the robustness of the TNGA platform.

Based on LC chief engineer, LC300 should at least match (if not exceed) LC200 in robustness while using lighter components. Now, whether you believe him or not is your call. But officially, he has stated that LC300 platform is quite good.

Well that sounds reputable. Thanks!

Well, one thing about the LX is that nobody will ever ask why you're driving your wife's car.

/Troll.

You mean GX550? Thats what the salesperson thought I wanted to order lol.

My current girlfriend will be getting the LX600 I ordered and I’ll get it back when my F250 gets close to 100k (set up perfect and deleted etc will just garage it). Its very similar dimensions to her X5 but she wants a 3 row.

I will put some 24s on it and then the factory 18s when I get it back and I have absolutely no problem using it on my Ranch and construction sites.
