Hello,

So my 60 has been running hot. The truck runs fine on the freeway/highway cruising 50-70 mph once I come to an idea in traffic it starts to heat up ~210 deg.

This is what i have done flushed the cooling system with a cleaner, installed new t-stat, radiator, electric fan pulling 2500 cfm. No signs of leaks.

Thanks,

James :mad::frown::

What temperature are you trying to stay below? It is my understanding that you can go up to 220F and still consider it normal.

James -

On the 80 series, the fan clutch is critical for sufficient cooling. The fan is mounted to the fan clutch. I assume it's also important on the 60's - it may be worth a try. I'm not sure how to check if the one you have is working, but if it's original, it may be ready for replacement. Give Cruiser Dan a call at American to check on price.

Check your timing and EGR system.

Not sure what the running temp. should be I was trying to keep it in the 190 range. The guage just seems to be reading a higher reading or same as before the fixes.

Thanks for the all the help.

How are you measuring the temps?

-Mike-

Ok after taking some temp readings here they are 179'~198'. These temp were taken at different times and days but the hotest temp that i could get was the 198' during the heat of the day driving in stop and go traffic.

So my overall questions now is what is a good and safe running temp for a stock 2F?

198* is not that hot.

You should not be concerned with engine temps below 220* F. I don't think the thermostat opens on my truck (1FZ-FE) until ~175*F. This assumes you are using a proper 50/50 coolant mix and a working thermostat and a working radiator cap.

All is new 160' T-Stat, Radiator cap, Electric fan and pre mix coolent 50/50 with weter water added.

So looks like i'm in the clear thanks for all the help. Hope to see you guys in MOAB.

my LT1 from a chevy caprice is designed to run over 220. the primary cooling fan kicks on at 230 and the secondary at 235. of course, i put in a mechanical clutch fan and it runs 180-190 all day now. so, 198 sounds fine to me too. 230 in a cruiser would be getting up there kinda to high i think.
