What is this rusted out piece???

Going to check out a 2004 GX470 and finally got the owner to get me a few undercarriage shots.

The first few look ok, but what about the last one? What is that rusted out part? Initially I thought it was a plastic part but it does not appear that way.

Thanks in advance. I'm pretty positive this one will be passed on. I have another one locally that has been treated on the undercarriage every year and not a rusted bolt to be seen.

The last picture is the front skid plate. Other than the hole rusted in it, the rest of the minor surface rust around the welds looks normal for Toyota.

That makes me nervous to see. My skid plate in the 100 is plastic which is why I was confused.

If there is that kind of rust I am sure there is rust elsewhere too.

That's not rust, that's patina. That isn't even REMOTELY bad.

Yeah my trucks have seen way worse. I am hoping to try to get an almost rust free rig and keep it that way. Too much cursing and bloody knuckles.

The guy selling that one is shifty though and doesn't have good answers to questions. Makes it easy.

Going to check one out tomorrow. Guy FaceTimed me and showed me inside and out. Good service record. TB and WP done 10/10/15.

Hopefully minimal rust.

Rust on the skid wouldn't worry me.

Yeah there were other bells going off for me though. Gotta trust the gut.
