What is this for and should a wire/plug be connected to it? Noticed this while doing suspension on my brother’s 1994 truck.

At first glance looks like an e-locker actuator. Another pic from farther back would help. Does the truck have the locker switch on the dash? Should be just to the left of the steering column, says diff lock on it, dial type switch in a sort of square hole.

That's the locker motor for the electric locking differential and the thing with the broken connector is the switch. The harness wire going to the switch and motor is missing. Above the broken switch is the connector for the motor (and no wire going to that either). Do you see any wires dangling in midair in that area?

Thanks! We could not find any wire(s) going to the actuator. Need to find where the wire was cut

Could be the entire harness is missing, or was never installed. Is there a locker
motor on the other axle?

I don’t know much about 80 series, would the motor be on or near the axle housing?

If you don't have the before mentioned dash switch then most likely the original axle was replaced with one from a donner vehicle. A vehicle fitted with front and rear lockers from the factory will also have a K294 code on the build sticker on the front drivers door, otherwise there will be a K292 code.

Looks like Santa brought you lockers for Christmas.
I wish, this is my brother’s truck. I introduced him to the cruiser addiction. He bought the truck, then tires, followed by lift, now he wants bumpers…

The harness to the front actuator most likely has been ripped out. If the harness is not properly secured it can catch get twisted up on the front driveshaft and ripped free. The other end of that harness connects under the cruise control actuator on the right inner fender. I would start tracing the harness from that point. It should go down the firewall an attach to the radius arm, from there to the axle housing finally to the actuator shown in your pictures.

My sister in law is actually a lot more tolerant than my wife when it comes to cruisers. My wife dislikes my 3 “junk”(as she calls them) trucks

This gives me a sweet idea about a movie I’m scripting.

Edit: It’s a porno.

Uh...I'm with 'axle swap' notion.
That locker switch is not period. Period.
And I've already outed the only known source of an actuator wire harness in another thread. Said it was in stock, but I seriously doubt they have two. (maybe didn't have the one anyway)
Agree with "what does the door tag with the VIN" say the truck came with?
