I read something about it one time, and how it is prone to leak coolant (as mine did). I want to replace the gasket while I have my motor out but don't know what the part is called . Didn't find it in the FSM either.

Just use a quality sealer like "the right stuff" and it will never leak if it was cleaned first.

Or get that kit and have the gasket fail like your did. You did mention it was prone to leaking like yours, why repeat the results with a crappy ol gasket?

If your truck is an '85 then your oil pan shouldn't have a gasket on it. It's supposed to use FIPG. The black stuff from Toyota is really good stuff, or the gray "Right Stuff" is also excellent.

Good idea, I'll throw some Honda Bond on there. I use that stuff on all my vehicles.
The oil pan did have the cork gasket when I took it off, but that was also leaking as well. Honda Bond'n that too then.

Oh yeah, so I never figured out what that plate was called. Is it the "EGR plate"?

That could be the name, makes sense.

The reason the oil pan was leaking is because of the cork gasket. That pan doesn't have the proper crimp in the flange for a cork gasket, it needs to be FIPG.

The earlier (pre 8/84) engines had a cork gasket, the pan flange is different.

I vote for FIPG - "Form in Place Gasket" it works wonders.

it is indeed an EGR cooler plate.

toyota does use a and sell the gaskets for this.

i keep a few on hand, as well as other misc gaskets and seals that I only trust or can only get made by/for toyota.

i also use exclusivley The Right Stuff.
i vote FIPG best, but not cost effective.
