What is the going rate for a factory service manual? I've got a '94 and a '97 TLC. Should I buy a service manual for each year or are they similar enough that one manual will work for both. I've seen them on e-bay where they sell for $60 - $80 plus $15 shipping. Is that a fair price? ???

for the '03 FSM and FWM, about $285 from Toyota... :P

Ben,

Why not PM'ing cruiserdan ?
Mine costed $120 & I picked up at a local dealer (and that was before me knowing Dan, ofcourse)

Frank.

Ben, PM Cdan and ask him. I think mine (97) was around $90 or something like that. There's enough difference between the 2 years that you should own both. I think the 94 is 2 books, but not sure. Do yourself a favor and keep them in the truck unless being used. This way if you or your spouse need help from someone that doesn't know your truck, they may be able to help. They may sound expensive, but if they help resolve one issue then they have paid for themselves.

There are significant differences between 94 and 97. OBDII, airbags and different air metering for starters.

Current list price for a 94 FSM is $94.95 and a 97 is $81.95

Chassis wise they are very close and could be used for either. If you need to trouble-shoot EFI or SRS for example, you need the correct book.

What does PM mean?

Dan, am I correct in assuming that you sell the manuals? If you do, I definately want to get the '97 manual. I'm supposed to drive to West Virginia next weekend to pick up the '94 LC that I bought on e-bay. Assuming everything goes well with the '94 purchase, l'll probably also want to get the '94. How do I contact you to make the purchase? phone? e-mail?

PM= Private Message, click the little green scroll under some ones name

unfortunately Cdan could not get me a manual for the LX 450 (dam lexus/toyota separation)

in case anybody is interested the Lexus manuals can be gotten from the Toyota Material Distribution Center 1-800-622-2033

for a 96 the FSM was 89.06 (one volume) than the WDM was 48.56 total with shipping was 158.15

factory manuals are head and shoulders above Chilton's / Hains and well worth the money for any keeper vehicle,

Raventai,

Thanks

I find the EWD manual (electrical wiring diagram) even more useful than the service manual but you really need both IMHO.

I agree with Phil on having the EWD. I went without for a couple of years but wasn't doing anything with the electrical system. Now that I'm adding wired accessories it's a valuable tool.

Thanks everyone! I ordered the FSM and the EWD along with a cup holder from Dan.

PPC is quite correct. In fact, if you are going to make extensive wiring upgrades, and do a lot of additions - and want to keep the installs neat, clean, servicable, and as much like OEM as possible, I would also recommend the WHD - Wire Harness Repair manual.

Not for everyone, but I've found it extremely useful in identifying connectors and terminals, and matches for same for non-U.S. spec accessories that involve wiring upgrades.

Did you know that the Oz spec subtank switch uses the same connector as the U.S. spec hazard switch, and that the Euro spec rear fog light switch uses the same connector as the U.S. spec rear hatch defogger switch? Endlessly useful.

Ask CDan about it...

Cheers, R -

Thanks Paradise, I'll be sure to ask Dan about it when I call him back to get the manuals for my '94.

Ben6, of course I'll have to deny this if ever quoted, but Cdan is a super guy. You'll find him a very valuable resource for parts, knowledge, and general Cdannishness stuff. Good call on picking that stuff up. These are handy to have, even if you don't work on your own rig, in case you break down in some nowhere place like Flagstaff AZ, where no one knows anything :D about cruisers. This way, most mechanics, armed with your books should be able to get you home. Still, of course not the ideal situation, but always a great reason to have them with you.
