What is the finish on the B and C pillars? Is it clear coat black? Single stage black paint? Or something else? I'm doing a full detail on a badly weathered 97 FJ80 and can't tell what that is. It seems rather soft though.

OK never mind. My question was answered when I took the pad and polish I was using on the roof and ran the machine over the B pillar on an impulse. My nice new Lake Country orange hydro pad came back dark BLACK.

Yup, it's single stage paint. I got a nice shine out of it though. :)

Most of you guys probably don't care about having a shiny truck to off road and rock climb with, which actually makes sense, but it's new to me and my first ever LC80, or 4wd truck of any kind, and the only place it's going is on the beach, so I'd like to at least start off with something that looks as good as possible.
I could have bought something a lot newer and a lot nicer, but I actually wanted an 80 series LC.

You're not alone, lots of folks want a nicely detailed 4WD vehicle. I've been wanting to attempt to polish up the pilars on my LX, so thanks for the heads up.

Shure thing.

Meguiars #105 will remove all the dead flat paint oxidation around the windows and leave a nice "durable" shine. #205 after that will create a brilliant shine, but it'll show future scratches more. That's why I stopped after 105. For now. ;)

I'm kinda jealous of you guys with black and other dark colored 80's. I have all the stuff to make them really shine, but I'm stuck with... beige. :frown:
