What is the color of the license plate holder on a 1976 FJ40?

I am looking to repaint my rear license plate holder. It looks to be a shade of grey.

Is it the same color as the roll bar as well?

Also, any idea where I can get the paint locally?

Any feedback will be appreciated.

Regards

This is a stock '76 license plate assembly. It's black. Any reason you couldn't repaint with rattle can black?

FWIW, I've never seen one in any other color than black.

I thought that too. I already painted my plate holder in a flat black like yours in the pic.

I guess I should have asked the color of the metal cover for the license plate light in the pic. It's that grey color but what grey? Anything that I can just pick up at a home depot or lowes?

That photo isn't my 40. Mine is an '82. I painted my light covers with a Rustoleum Silver Metallic rattle can. It was the closest match I could find to the original color. FWIW my covers weren't gray. They had a metallic finish that matched the rear view mirror arms. It may have been gray for earlier years. I dunno. :hhmm:

Not sure if this will help, but here's the way mine turned out.

Took mine as far apart as I could and rattled it semi gloss black. Painted the light covers pewter and then re-wired it.

Someone explain to me why they designed the lights like that? They look dorky as hell if you ask me. I guess it has something to do with the shape of Japanese license plates or something.

That guy lost his job at TEQ, must have been a hell of a mistake to make on his last day of work.
