Every one says that but why, truly?

Any one run amsoil?

https://www.amsoil.com/storefront/ant.aspx

I actually didn't do any heavy research on it before using it. I just figured Toyota would use something fairly good on their vehicles, and I kind of like the OEM thing. I try to pretty much keep OEM replacement parts in my truck.

I've never tried the Amsoil stuff, sorry. Maybe TB has...he's into Amsoil.

The Toyota red stuff is made for aluminium block engines...you also have to keep the proper PH balance with that stuff.....50/50 green crap is fine for a diesel

I bought diesel green motomaster for top ups. I didn't know there was difference in glycol blend anti's.
but the jug I bought does say diesel on it.

I would by deduction say red is best. why else did all the new cars switch to it. ????

As said before, because it is for aluminum. That amsoil stuff is prolly really good for your pump, but the green pre stone works great too. I always put some red line water wetter in mine though, a bottle of that stuff works great at keeping things cool. Makes coolent bubble less for better heat transfer and is good for your water pump.

i have heard of this stuff a couple times now, i really need to give this stuff a try. where do you buy the "water wetter"?
cheers

I just switched to the Amsoil .Mostley because it's not toxic.(NOT That I have ever leaked any or disposed of the ethyl stuff inappropraitley).......O.K. I did do one backyard rad flush along time ago.

The Amsoil is apparentley safe for pets also.

i never really thought about the effects on pets till i did some research when Billy had first taken ill. i thought he had drank some antifreeze in the garage. anyway it seems that an ounce of antifreeze is toxic and if no vet service is sought after 1/2 hr it is terminal...
a sure eye opener for me, be very careful with this stuff, around dogs espec...
cheers

The BJ70 I recently purchased has amsoil. At first I thought it was really dirty coolant, then remembered the sellers ad specifying amsoil.

I'm looking for coolant for my 74 and the Toyota red seems to be much more expensive than the regular green coolant that I've always used in my other vehicles. Is this because of typical inflated Toyota parts prices?

The 13BT requires about 14 liters right?

I have to do more research, but isn't the difference in color usually the difference between Ethylene Glycol (green colored) or Extended Life Ethylene Glycol (yellow/orange colored) and Propylene Glycol (red colored).

IIRC from my VW days, there is quite a difference between them in mix ratios, heat removal capacities, aluminum interaction and whether or not you can use additives.

Is the Toyota Red EG or PG?

(I have Cat ELF in mine)

I like the green because it can be distinguished quickly from other fluids. For example, the pink of my ATF looks alarmingly like Toyota red until I taste. Then, I pause, smile, and call a vet. :)

i would be surprised if whether the engine is diesel or not effects choice of antifreeze. i just use whatever, but then i haven't done a chenge (yet) and it doesn't use any

In a Toyota maintenance manual it just calls for an ethylene-glycol base coolant for the 3B. I bought some run of the mill green coolant. Now I just have to figure out how to drain the engine without spilling all over and find a container that can hold 13 liters of used coolant.
