Removed from a 2006 Tundra because of a blown head gasket. (Posting here because 2uz)

Buddy bought a Tundra that ran very hot and had blown head gasket for cheap to fix and sell. Heads pulled, and taken to machine shop. They called and said one was pitted all to hell and asked if he was aware. (He had not noticed) The head that had the the blown gasket looks normal. The did their work and he picked them up. The pitting is literally everywhere. Even inside the bolt holes. I don’t get it. Look where the cams ride! The caps are totally fine.

My assumption is it happened when they cleaned it, but the other head it’s totally fine.🤷🏻‍♂️

Anyone have any input? I don’t see how this thing is useable.

Looks like someone used the wrong blast media when they cleaned the first one. The steel held up but aluminum did not.
Agreed, best guess is sand blasting. Seems like the shop should fix it if they did the damage. Any pictures of the head before it was sent in to prove it did not have the pitting before they took possession.

I'm not convinced that's from blasting. Seems to be inconsistent with metal between the pits which I wouldn't expect to see with blasting, especially given the depth of the pits. Plus, if it's a reputable shop, I'm sure they've cleaned thousands of alloy cylinder heads before.

Maybe corrosion from stray electrical current?
