Re: your "valuable" junk upon death.,
Take responsibility...
- Make a list of items of special value, either on paper or digital, kept with other important "upon death" papers.
- list items, current estimated value in today dollars, and a contact who knows said item, and can help spouse/kids in valuing/selling item.

Or if you are getting up there in years, help the spouse or kids out by starting the process of getting rid of extra stuff before they have to deal with it.

Just a thought
(From a guy who has had to clear out several hoarder relative's estates)
Totally agreed. I do probate sales of houses and many valuable items are auctioned off. Just sell and give the money to the kids, wife, grandkids trusts etc.

Needed to get my fire extinguisher and first aid recertification for the annual road inspection. An easy job and done within an hour. The guy that refilled the fire extinguisher 🧯 told so many funny stores about his family having a Land Cruiser growing up. He learned to drive one with a three speed on a farm. Fond memories.

@igotta40 has a terrific plan so while this came to me while watching tv. I did make it out to the pole barn and find an unopened bag of those pool noodles left over from the kids. I figured red would stand out so I would not forget it was there then hop in and head on down the road .

With a new blade in The sheet rock knife and 2 slices 1/2” apart this will do it for me

That’s perfect 🤩

I do have a ‘death valuation letter ‘ to my wife and kids. BUT, I seem to always have a story…age can do that for you so….

Back in the early 1990’s I was restoring a few motorcycles and came across an ad in what was called “ The Want Ad Press”.

For sale…1947FL Harley Davidson motorcycle with sidecar. Bike has been stored in basement 30+ years. Husband died and it’s time to sell the bike. $2000.00. Call…..XXX-XXXX ( was before 10 digit phone numbers)

THIS is one of the more highly desired Harleys WITH an original sidecar , last year of production, and its been stored and probably has very few repop parts if any…likely original paint and all of the good stuff guys like myself drool over.

I called this number hourly for a week..constantly busy. I keep calling daily for 3 weeks …busy..I finally get through and a women answers…Good afternoon, I’m calling about the motorcycle for sale?”

Click…
I assume 1 of a few things…that bike then was worth $10,000 or more and she gave it away to the first call for $2000.00. Some one played one hell of a prank on someone or the taste of sweet revenge

Either way…it’s a story

Looked something like this one.

Similar story but about 8 years ago...another '47, but a Bay area chop, still has original cases, trans, uncut frame just missing the front head......4k picked up from a trailer park in Nevada....ended up being an ex club bike...polaroids and rocker came with it.

Hello, I am looking into refreshing the brakes on my 1977 FJ40 with front discs and rear drums. I am wondering if I can use the master cylinder in the first picture as a direct bolt on replacement or if I need a proportioning valve. If I’m unable to use it I plan on ordering everything from city racer. Thanks!View attachment 3872722View attachment 3872719

Don’t think so. Mine looks like the CityRacer setup and works great.

You can use an 80 series master cylinder (non-abs though) not sure what you posted without part number & and need a portion valve. Often people get the wildwood one. Racer sells it all as do others (outfit/valley). Some places like Red Line sell nifty brackets for the portion valve for a clean look.

Is your current MC not working? Do your dash brake lights (parking etc) not come on the dash( do you need two new switches)? Check booster diaphragm and if weak, maybe get the new booster IMO if it all else checks out.

What to think about - and I haven’t- with the newer MC, how would your warning lights work? As I understand it, those are pressure sensors as some electrical work might be required if important to have/you.

Think your 77 had factory discfront/drumrear? Then the MC from cityracer should work sans Proportioning valve. Leaking into booster may have ruined both or booster may still work. Have you checked it with vacuum? Watch for the pushrod length when you swap the new booster in. Mine was perfect out of the box.
I did a swap (83 fj60 brakes onto 74 fj40) and used the 93 MC/Booster/Pvalve from Cityracer. It works GREAT. Had to bend and flare a little brake line to get my Pvalve on there - think I rented or bought a cheap bender and flaring tool at OReilly's.

I bench-bled the MC and used the gravity method to bleed the lines until all clear. I did my best to NOT introduce air into the system (IE plugging the hard lines, loosen/change one component at a time, not let everything drain out...)

From the factory a ‘77 has a proportioning value mounted to the two lower master cylinder studs. It reduces the pressure to the rear circuit to reduce Rear wheel lock up. My experience has been that the rear wheels will lock up without one. On wet surfaces, it’ll make your front end pass the rear… fortunately a 40 is very short, but sliding into an intersection backwards isn’t a lot of fun.

I’ve read in some instances, that mudders have not needed one with four wheel disc brakes, but that has not been my experience.

That master appears to be an 80 series (or similar). If that’s the case I’d recommend adding a 10 lb residual valve to the rear circuit. Inline ones are available, and they’d be a lot cheaper than a new Master.

Personally I’d get some brackets from Posser and convert the rear to discs. In the long run they’ll be much easier to maintain. I don’t miss adjusting Toyota drums one bit.

A buddy of mine moved about 3 hours away. I took pics of his truck, boat and Harley and listed it as a package deal on craigslist for ridiculously cheap. We were all camping together when I posted the ad, he started getting nonstop calls about 3 minutes after I posted it. Took him about 15 minutes to find the ad and about an hour to figure out who did it. He got calls for weeks.

Same friend has a 64 Galaxie R code and we pulled the 427 for a rebuild. The engine was at my house and I put an ad up for that and said “old tractor parts from dad’s barn” for like $500. I was really pleased with that one.

So YOU're that guy!

Reminds me of the story (from the UK IIRC) of the guy who posted a bunch of flyers for a "Chewbacca sound-alike contest". The instructions were to call the number and leave a voice mail with your best Chewbacca yell impersonation. The phone number was his ex-girlfriend. She was a good sport and the recordings were hilarious.

My goodness, these stories are funny… I may need to borrow the Chewbacca story some day. I have no girlfriends though after 49 years of 1 woman
I may just have to get creative and have them call a friend and wish them Happy Birthday

I played with electrical stuff again.

You people with padded dashes had a dash light for your knobs?! Fancy.

Aaaaand...troubleshooting the turn signal housings. Grounds are important, apparently? After the incident with the passenger side I think I’ll just order new ones, and it looks like the ground wire is included now.

Its a good idea to add ground wires frt and rear to the metal fixtures and grd them to the body or frame. Early lights were only grounded by the mounting bolts and commonly lose grd.

Sounds like you have a package of stories to sell Mr. Peterson for his bio. Be like Cosmo and pocket some cash.
