Ive searched mud and the entire internet. This information is -not- online. I'm sure if I called a dealership parts department, they'd have no idea how to find out either.

Depends, I’d say the majority is close to 16-18 awg some is bigger some smaller.

I’m largely basing that off of having hacked my engine harness off at the firewall and the rest of my harness modifications. Can’t give you a definite though.

Will rolls of 14, 16, and 18 gauge suffice then? Or is there another size also?

Repairing the section that's been sitting on the EGR hose.. I haven't opened up the covering yet but was thinking they might be all the same size in that area.

Having very terrible misfires and unburnt fuel smell, severe loss of power etc. It has gradually gotten worse and this is the first thing I have to rule out.

Can’t promise but I’d bet that 16 would take care of that whole section. Maybe grab some 14 for good measure. Doubt you’ll need anything else.

If you are fixing that area, HIGHLY consider getting the wire from waytek or coolerman or someone that has the high temp insulation type of wire. If you buy the PVC insulated wire from NAPA or something it may just melt again.

Open it up and take a look first. Chances are good that the copper portion of the wire is still intact and just the insulation is melted off. When I did mine I weighed the options of splicing in new wire and the risk of bad connections (and extra work) vs just taping up the existing wire that was fine other than some missing insulation. Since the missing insulation was only a half inch or so I went with the tape option and its been good ever since.

The key thing is to safely package it back up, replace the loom and secure it away from the hot egr pipe.

My first test is to zip tie the harness away from the pipe and see if the problem improves. If your harness is so burned that it needs lots of new wire, consider a new harness. Have done many of these repairs and rarely, if ever, needed to replace wires.

Good info on harness repair, including measuring wire size, is in the harness repair manual. The wire is metric, domestic is close, kinda, ish.
