I did search and i looked in the faq.. I already have sm465 with 10 spline out put, aa adapter, 3 speed bellhousing, 3 speed tcase, new 2f pressure plate, and resurface 2f flywheel, know everyone says 11 inch chevy disc. BUT WHAT DISC, off what vehicle do i tell the person at the parts store??

Also, what type of car is the pilot bearing off of, i read that the 2f pilot bearing won't work, so off of what vehicle is the bearing from? Thanks..

you need the 10.4" disc. The 11" disc doesn't play nicely with the 2F pressure plate unless you have it turned down EVER so slightly.

I got a 10.4" disc out of (I think) it was a 1980 GMC pickup with a straight 6. Usually when the parts guys look up the part it will show them a measurement of 10.4" or 11" just keep your eye out for that.

Sean-

All of you questions will be answered if you spend a few minutes reading Treeroots’ write up in the Tech Links <---- this is a link

Steve i called the bearing company that was mention in the write up, that one pilot bearing after fees and shipment will cost cost over 40 dollars, that is rediculous... So i guess my question is, are there any alternatives??? Can i not use a 2f pilot bearing???

Also, there is not anything in there about what model vehicle the clutch disc is from. I checked for the 80 inline 6 pickup, and it only comes with 11 and 12 inch. No 10.5. Do you know what vehicle i need to tell the parts store guy for the disc and pilot bearing. Thanks Steve!!

The fact that the input shaft of the 420/465 transmissions are SHORTER than the Land Cruiser J30/H41/H42/H55 three, four and five speed transmissions REQUIRES you to use a pilot bearing that has a longer inner race section that the 202RRE pilot bearing provides.

No, you cannot use a Land Cruiser pilot bearing because it will not support the input shaft and will result in your transmission being ruined if ran that way.

Call around Birmingham Alabama or other larger cites closer to you. There has to be a bearing house that has this or can get it for you.

The 11-inch disc is going to measure smaller than 11 inches. That is the disc that you want. Any Chevy or GMC truck from the early 60’s to the early 90’s is going to effectively use the same clutch disc.

There are not any places around here that sell clutch discs individually any longer. The last time that I wanted a GM disc for my 420-replacement/install affair a couple years back, I purchased it from Advance Adapters.

I just did this conversion myself. I found the bearing online using the measurements from the site in the FAQ for less than $20. You can buy the disc by itself from Autozone (part #CP3348) for ~$35. Check other online sources, most places carry it and it's not that expensive. I think I got the alignment tool from Autozone as well for $5-6.

Be sure to pre-fit the transmission input shaft onto the bearing before you install them in the vehicle. I had to sand mine down a little with some emery cloth before it would fit.

Thank you for the clutch disc part number.

Emboldened to emphasize the importance of this step!

I got 5 of the pilot bearings off eBay for like $25 shipped. Just search on the part number, but don't spend $40 on it for sure!

I don't know who you are, but you are WRONG. I installed the disk thinking it was the correct one, no it is is 1/4 of an inch too wide in diameter, i had to pull all the s*** apart again:mad:

I am sorry this didn't work out for you, to be perfectly honest I have no idea why. This is the clutch I have in my truck right now with '77 2F and a '77 SM465 with a 3spd flywheel and bellhousing. My junk all bolted right together, without any binding or other issues (other than sanding the input shaft on the tranny to ensure it fit into the pilot bearing.)

Check any of the auto parts warehouses for a clutch for a '77 Chevy Blazer.

I'm going "old school" on you guys. I used to build these adapter parts the cheap way.
You can use a standard GM pilot bushing ( cheap ) if you build a standoff for it.

Start with 1 3/8" x .25 DOM , 1 and 3/8" long, bore it 13/16" deep at 1.095.

This "standoff" will set the bushing off the flywheel enough to engage the
input shaft of the tranny
