SOOOOO...
as long as you have the bell housing, torque convertor and engine wiring and ECU then you "should" :hmm: be able to install these into the LJ78...

<discuss>

Let me guess, you were setting around waiting for the coffee to kick in and got bored.:) Why you think the LJ78 needs a replacement engine is beyond me ( remember glass "half full"):)
.......1978HJ45

nah, i have a auto from a dead 78 that i am selling and thought i would check to see what all ran this tranny and found that list... quite a variety to chose from.

Toyota UZ engine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia@@AMEPARAM@@/wiki/File:Toyota_3UZ-FE_engine_001.JPG" class="image" title="3UZ-FE"><img alt="3UZ-FE" src="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/4/49/Toyota_3UZ-FE_engine_001.JPG/250px-Toyota_3UZ-FE_engine_001.JPG"@@AMEPARAM@@commons/thumb/4/49/Toyota_3UZ-FE_engine_001.JPG/250px-Toyota_3UZ-FE_engine_001.JPG
In its standard, original trim with 10:1 compression, power output is 191 kW (256 hp), torque of 353 N·m (260 ft·lbf).

The engine was slightly revised in 1995 with lighter connecting rods and pistons and an increased compression ratio to 10.4:1 resulting in peak power of 195 kW (261 hp) and torque of 363 N·m (268 lb·ft).

In 1997, Toyota's VVT-i variable valve timing technology was introduced along with a further compression ratio increase to 10.5:1, bumping power and torque to 216 kW (290 hp) and 407 N·m (300 ft·lbf). In the GS400 application, output was rated at 300 hp and 310 ft-lb of torque.

I'd like to put one in an LJ/RJ-70 (Bundera), light duty SWB cruiser.

Here is one in a heavy duty cruiser...
