What does this wiring harness do?

Trying to clean up some wires. Previous owner had car alarm installed with kill switch. Stereo guy disabled and ripped out the alarm but left all the old wiring. I’m trying to determine if I can removed this black wire that goes through the firewall and is tap spliced to the wire harness towards the bottom of the engine bay near the transmission. Pretty sure the end of the wire in the passenger compartment is attached to a bunch of old wires taped together under the dash but hard to trace. Also curious the purpose of this wire harness for future reference. Thanks.

that is not stock.
a PO added something in the past.
you need to follow the wire and see where it goes to know what it powers
either get rid of the scotchlok connector or splice the wires correctly

It looks like it’s going to the sub harness that does 4wd indication, hi/lo, etc. hard to say without more info on wire color of where it’s tapped to
