Hello. I'm considering either a FJ80 or a FJ62. In the 80 series, I'm sold on the 94 (& older) dash. I'm also pleased to know that the 4.5 began in the 94. What do the younger (95-97) models have over the 94 year. Also, how does the FJ62 match up to the 94 FJ80? Thanks for your help.

OBDII

Thank you Grizzlygibb. Your link answers everything & more. Thanks again!

Also, height-adjustable front seat belts. Personally, I would NOT buy a pre '95. But that's just me.

Thank you SBFJ60FIG. I'd be interested in hearing the reasoning why not a "pre 95" FJ, (OBD ?). Also, what part of Chicago are you from? I was raised in the 10th Ward, Ed Vrdolyak-land (far Southeast side) and lived for a few years in Hyde Park. Now for a couple years in Bangkok. Thanks.

The 4.5 began with the 1993 model year. The 94 will have the larger, bulletproof, superior "bus" tranny. :D

To me, the real differences are: OBDII, air-bags, super-charger option. And this is my list of bad differences: grill w/ symbol in stead of "TOYOTA", smaller transmission, fewer have manual seats.

The only thing I don't like about my '93 is lack of airbags but as many have stated, you probably shouldn't put much faith in 14 to 16 year-old-airbags at this point. The ODBI isn't that big of a deal really as you can still pull the codes with relative ease. I specifically wanted cloth when I was looking for a Cruiser so I would not have to deal with the cracked or torn leather. I also have manual seats which I prefer.

Good luck with your search!

Oh yes, then there is this. Ha. :p

yes -the 94 has the cooler , more truck "looking" dash-however if you take things apart all the time- the later dash is more fastener friendly- no airbags is a plus for me I prefer cloth/manual over leather - I will say the may not be as fuel efficient as the 95 -ups- maybe tranny combo is factor - I am not sure -no leather steer wheel/shifter was avail and thats what i prefer- are leather trucks supposed to go in the woods anyway??- I 've been wheeling for decades and that just seemed like wearing a suit to your welding job
