What do you feed your dog?

I feed my man eater a eukanuba 2x a day. He loves yogurt, so i'll usually leave the last little bit of yogurt in a cup and let him polish it off.

I draw the line at walmart brand, but usually purina or pedigree, whatever is on sale of the recognized brands. my folks always used to feed their dogs "money saver" brand, it finally kicked off at about 15 years old. was always mostly healthy, with the exception of arthritis resulting form various vehicle related injuries when she was younger
out of curiosity why do they use lamb in dogfood, doesn't seem very efficient, mutton or horse would seem to make more sense, I mean maybe the price of a leg of lamb might come down if they weren't feeding it all to a bunch of spoiled dogs.

j/k, your dogs are not spoiled, and I'm a bad person for talking about horses as food

Applause! Wow, I have just started to think about "upping" my 4 yr old Lab's diet. She's a picture of health - been fed Iam's Large Breed since a pup. Now I see they add Omega-3 oil to the food - watery waste at first now firm. She also gets the occasional can of tuna fish with olive oil, some popcorn and Boar's Head turkey and hard cookies or bisuits made for dogs. I don't think Iam's is bad, just curious about getting closer to real meat - dare I say organic? Still in the discovery stage. And good for you Eric - I'm not a Pit Bull guy but I know this breed has been royally abused by us humans.

Eukanuba is made by Iam's I think? Also, my Lab gets a couple heapings of Stoneyfield Farms Plain non-fat yogurt every morning. Me, I like the blueberry and Key Lime yogurt :D

Ok I feed my 5yr old lab Purina adult. I got him from the pound in February this year. Feed him 4 cups a day. He has been shedding for a few weeks now. But his shedding is kinda weird to me anyhow. right around his tail and hind legs quarters I can "pull" tufts of hair off of him. Now he isn't bald in those spots, is this just his undercoat from the winter comin off like mad? Or I have heard some dog foods help with their coat. Is the purina dog food affecting his coat or is it just shedding time and is that a normal way for dogs to shed. Also another question I bought him a thick collar...well the vet told me 2 fingers under it and that is good. Well it rubbed him raw under there...luckily I caught it before it got real bad. I am gonig to get him another collar but wonderin what you guys use. was thinkin a chain one that cinches on itself when you walk him. Not for punishment type but that it would be loose while he was off a leash and then while he was on one it would be loose unless he decided to run forward. Thanks a bunch

Hey Eric

I would have bet Noah would have chimed in by now.

We feed Diamond lamb & rice except for our old female who gets "Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul.

JR

Diamond Food

It was bad corn in the food that Diamond made. Dogs do not need corn anyway, it's a by-product.

No corn in the lamb and rice.

No, no no on the cinching collar - NO!!!! Use a nice harness with at least 1" wide straps. My Lab has an entire hand between her neck and her collar. I also trained her off-leash. Teach your dog - take the time -they are very bright and will learn fast - you'll have an awesome dog. And for the record, Labs always are shedding (Labs have a double coat fyi - they never really get wet) - just brush him occasionally and broom, vaccum the rest off the floor. Check for fleas around the (otter) tail area - could be a slight infestation. 4 cups a day? Sounds like to much - waaaay to much. How active are you? I feed mine 2 cups am & 1 cup pm. Iam's since birth - large breed formula. Labs - most awesome dogs in the world. Good luck.

Are you talkin the harness that goes around under his legs and the leash hooks on over his back? Only was considering the cinch collar so that when he wasn't on leash it was totally loose. Is your hand flat or in a "fist" to slide under his collar? The Vet told me 2 fingers would be fine but obviously not. PLus I think he has a little somethin in him..seems to have a double chin or 2...but he is not fat...just extra skin. As far as the food amount...the vet was feeding him 5-6 cups a day. A local tech school had him for a month in there vet technical class. He is "thin" lab. Not overweight by anymeans. So the 4 cups seems fine for him.

Beniful for my dog...although she did tear through a whole pan of brownies one time. it resulted in a late night cruise to the emergency vet, but 750.00 later she was ok. we had to pay for x-rays too...she got so fat off the brownies that she rolled off the counter top and hurt one of her back legs.

Yes, the harness hooks on his back - find these anywhere - even Wal-Mart. Since my dog doesn't bolt and is strict with verbal commands, her collar is a fist-width loose. She has a very thick mane of hair around her neck that continues to the top of her shoulders. At 5 years old and depending on your activity, a Lab will eat and eat and gain weight fast so watch him: over-weight Labs are not a good thing - hip problems and shortened life = $/sad. Perhaps he was undernourished when the Vet got him? Get a target weight and monitor. My pup is female, pure bred and 85 lbs - she has gone up to 95 but brought her back down. Love to see pics!

Yeah he is 86 pounds...he was in the pound for a month before we saw him. Jackson has the same type of mane. It's not that he bolts...he used to but I fixed him of that. But he has this knack of getting out of his collar. Like this morning we were walkin him...he listens very well when I tell him no...he tried to go over and pee in this garden...(tryin to lessen this habit..I know he's a dog)...well told him no and he kept tryin to go over I tugged on the leash(and usually that's all it takes) but he jerked back and the collar pushed around his face(make sense) well it happened before and it came right over his head. Also if I have him on a rope when over at my fiance's mom's place(no fence) He thinks he is slick and uses the cameilla tree to get the collar off of his neck...tricky dog. So tryin to find a solution that won't rub his neck raw....but will stay on him...and won't be uncomfortable for him. Sounds like that harness may be the key...and hope fully that'll help him walk on a leash a little better. It's like he just gets excited...cause if he starts to get ahead I put a quck tug on the leash..may have to do it 2 or 3 times..but he is good cause he'll walk ahead and as soon as he feels the least little tension he will slow down. Just loves to smell everything.

Go to a doctor. Have him/her find out why your sperm count is low. Take a pill or two, and have a real baby. This is not healthy!

I have a 14 year old yellow lab

She eats walmart and whatever else she can catch. you crazy bastards have too much time and money. Get some kids and a life. If you are feeding your dog something better than what you eat then you are a retard. i can't believe i posted in another dog thread.

My Lab gets Precise dog food - Foundation (chicken/grain) formula with a bag of Sensicare (lamb/rice) every third bag or so. I raised her from a pup on Iams Puppy/Large Breed, but she got the point she would only pick at the stuff. Switched on my Vets recommendation and have been very happy - 100% natural w/o any chemical preservatives or meat by-products.
