What did you do with your truck this week?

Finished welding on my alignment tabs on the IFS and got the lower control arms nice and tight. However, I've still got something shifting/clunking when I make turns. I'm thinking it might be time to change out the bushings on the UCA's.

Or SAS:bounce::bounce2:
You know you want to:doh:

Used the rack twice in one week, woohoo.
Loaded up the pooch and a canoe and went north to some cleaner water for a paddle.

Removed the locker actuator housing yesterday and plan to get it cleaned up and reinstalled today.
rear locker hasnt been as aggeeable on engaging lately, though the front does just fine.

one day we will get back to castor and gas tanks again ;)

Tracked down the recent clunking I have in the front end. It's not the LCA's anymore, and it's not the UCA bushings as I once thought. It's my steering rack/pinion. I think its just gotten progressively worse as I was fixing the alignment tab issues I had, so it was hard to distinguish the alignment clunking from the steering clunking. I had Brian at ACC take a listen to it and he's never seen a steering rack sound so bad. His first thought was the mounting bushings since that is common on 4Runners. But after getting under there and actually feeling the clunk vibrations run through the tie rods, something really bad is going on with some of the teeth. Gotta replace the whole rack assembly now. Fun times!

Yeouch! The steering in my FJ has been 'clunking around' a bit when I'm on washboard. I've got to get that looked at too... :frown:

Yeah, I don't think rack and pinions were made for rock crawling.
They are, however, really nice on the highway

Took a while to extract the rack. The driver side mounting bolt doesn't have enough clearance to remove the rack. I read the official TEQ instructions on how to remove it and they have you disconnect the exhaust, remove the front DS, and drop the tranny cross member - all to tilt the engine enough to remove said bolt. Well, the bolt when extracted runs into the AC compressor. So after removing the four bolts that hold the compressor to the block, I got the rack out. I don't know what those Japanese designers were thinking. When I put it back together I'm going to reverse the bolts so they drop out from the bottom, and I'll put the nut on top of the mount bracket/bushings. Crazy! Had a delay in the part delivery, so Dig-Dug is down for the weekend.

Taking Bertha and some friends to Morris Mtn ORP tomorrow. Should be fun if we can stand the heat.

I think the PHH went on the 80 yesterday. It overheated on me and got pretty hot. We added some more water to it and drove it home for another 5 miles. It seemed ok. It definitely has an antifreeze leak on the rear of the engine. I ordered the silicone phh kit for it and will investigate further... Do you think its ok?

Flushed the 80s radiator and system and refilled with distilled and green. Been meaning to do it for a few months as it was red bf.

Also installed cb antenna on the truck. I got it back this week as I had 2 rear brake lines rust through. Currently painting some rust repair on the drivers a pillar that I treated a few weeks back with rust converter.

Had the cracks in the frame around the steering box welded and plated.

Put six new OEM bushings in the front radius arms.

slider

Got the sliders installed on Sunday. Kind of a PITA since they were so long. It was a tight fit on the driver side bc of the exhaust. I had to move the fuel lines on the passanger side to get the backing plate installed. Wrapped the lines in 5/8ths heater hose where they were touching the backing plates (thanks steve). Question, will i have any issues with moving the lines? I had to remove some of the bolts to get everything to fit, will it be ok to use zip ties to hold into place or make a spacer for the width difference of the plates? I still have some of the bolts in place and it doesnt move when i shake them.

You should be OK with moving the lines as long as you don't kink them and they don't rub a hole against anything. I wouldn't go the zip tie route. Let's fab up some spacers to fit when you help me install my rear Metal-tech bumper. :flipoff2:

Had fun at Morris Mtn with Kitty driving Berth and Phillip & Katie joined us in their black FJC. First time I've been there when it was so dry. Great day for wheeling.

Where's all this stuff coming from? I'm getting jealous!

compresor
anden model sd 508 V pulley - U=12 V
(wired on 24-12 powerverter with 5A fuse)
blow off valve 10 bars
one way valve
etc....

now i've constant 8 Bars onboard air :), 1 minute to fill the 5 gallons tank

Looks nice. How long do you expect the compressor to last without any oil?
