Finally got around to swap wheels. Powder coated a few weeks ago.

I removed both the cats off my FJ80 (91) had to keep the O2 sensors, maybe picked up some mpg? But I then added rock sliders and a wench, so it's a wash.
i kept my o2 sensors too. adding an arb bumper and winch and will likely regear soon since 35s are a struggle and i want to go to 37s
def will be doing a muffler upgrade still to quiet

What did that cost you, if you don't mind posting it?
They charge by the hour and it only took about 20 min. But, lesson learned, the cold can be rough on old plastics so they accidentally broke one of the transfer switches and he insisted I take it for free. Cool guy, and a Toyota enthusiast too. I assume it would have been like $50 or less.

For price reference though, he showed me a truck they did entire underside/chassis on, and with blasting and applying an undercoat, it was around $2000-2500

Thanks. We have 2 or more dry ice blasters near me. Maybe I'll have to give some consideration to parts cleaning.

Uh oh. Hmmm. Going for a quote on Tuesday for full dry ice blast of undercarriage, wheel wells, and engine compartment; and a clear protection for under and the thicker black stuff for the wheel wells.

Your “rough on old plastics” has me worried now though. Maybe I will skip the engine… not sure what is undercarriage that might be in danger…

Hmmm.

Oh, verbal site unseen estimate was “usually $2400-3200 for everything”.

Similar ballpark to pop-up van top conversions now days. I always thought it would be cool to sleep in the attic and be able to stand fully upright inside the truck to put on your pants or whatever, like a westfalia camper. If only the Hiace was more heavy duty and off-road capable like an 80, plus a pop top, that would be nuts!

It would be worth a talk with them beforehand. That's exactly why I wanted to try with a small part first to learn more about the process. They mentioned they also have different applicator sizes with different pressure/intensity for things like plastics. Also it might have been easier to crack since it was just an unplugged connector hanging out in the open.

But I think it's worth it, the results are pretty impressive.
