Whoops.
Did it again. 🤦‍♂️
2 spots this time, about 180 from each other. View attachment 4091618View attachment 4091619
What brand gears? I blew my front out last summer....they were aftermarket 4:56's (unknown brand to me, PO installed). Only real option was Revolution Gears for the replacement...hope they hold up better. That said, I blame myself as it was the first time in 3 years of ownership and wheeling the 80 that I would've needed a yank to get off of a slippery rock situation in a river bed (marked trail). I was jockeying forward to reverse to shimmy it loose, but BLAM....done! Fortunately I am part time 4wd, so I was able to drive her home 400 miles without a tow. Silver lining was that it was a good time to include the ARB up front to match the rear...;) 🦀

Next time I'll just suck it up and ask for a yank or drag out some winch line...after all, that is why we go out in small groups and I'm fully stocked with the recovery gear...

Or go easy on the skinny pedal 😁
where's the fun in that?? j/k. i try not to get to crazy. this break happened while engine breaking down a steep incline in Moab.... However i was in the throttle a little in a flat area just prior...

these are Revolution gears. they hold up fine, for the most part.
DIY install (my first time ever (and probably last) doing gears), and a little throttle happy from time to time makes things go boom. I was engine breaking when i heard the first pop, but continued for a few miles and had another decent climb before it really got angry at me.
I'm PT as well so the drive back to Denver from Moab was simple.

I recently picked up a set of Icon Rebound Pro wheels at a great price on the Facespace. They came with 35-inch tires that I plan to run for a while, though I eventually intend to move up to 37s once these wear out.

That transition is the main reason for the wheel change, though I do wish they still manufactured 37-inch tires for 16-inch wheels.

You can still get 385/70-16 and is considered 37.7s but only 1 or 2 brands of choice.

Remember you need to be extra careful in reverse with a 8" high pinyon front diff ! ;)

Yeah, I'm sure that it was the jockeying back and fourth that did it and my impatience at the moment towards the end of a long wheeling weekend...definitely a lesson learned and a little humility next time to just get a quick yank from the rig in front of me or drag out a winch line. I'm usually the one giving the yanks when wheeling with 100's and 200's in the pack. Driving wise, I prefer the slow crawl approach as much as possible as the 80 affords that luxury over the IFS rigs in most cases, so I'm usually pretty gentle on the skinny!

Setup wise on the front gears, I had @cruiseroutfit set up a core for me with the ARB locker added to match the rear....I've done gears in a few trucks, but never really enjoyed that process. Given the PITA amount of work/mess to pull the front axles on the 80, I didn't want to leave any novice errors of mine to haunt me later!

Some quads and a little Hp to Ruby the shop rig! Also we are using Ruby for some final testing of a new product. Our brake booster valve kit. This gets rid of the nasty line that runs across back of the valve cover making #6 plug hard to service. Plus it keeps the boost going down the correct 6 holes!

Cruiser sprung a coolant leak on me the other day, fortunately it was a slow-ish leak and I was close to home so...

Replaced both of the throttle body bypass hoses. The leak was coming from the hose that connects in to the head under the TB. I *think* these are the last coolant hoses to be replaced, I've done everything else. Also installed the Solvefunction mirror brackets to calm my shaky mirrors, discovered a couple vacated homes in the driver side mirror. Refreshed transfer case gear oil (500 miles since my rebuild / regear), transmission fluid and did an engine oil & filter change.
