What Did You Do with Your 80 This Weekend?

Frustrating weekend and at least half is my fault. Went to install the timing chain, and the kit I ordered did not include the two o-rings the seal the timing cover to the block. I should have been more attentive to what was in the box before I started, but I also one would think an install kit comes everything you need to complete the install. Next project that was not more cleaning was to install my gull wings that have been sitting patiently in a box for way too long. I had ordered the weatherstrip for both sides but did not order the window runs. Mine of course are roasted, so I ordered those. Also, the passengers side frame is also rotting away, so trying to source that without spending a fortune ordering from overseas. The bonus was that there was only a minuscule amount of rust under the drivers side sliding window and none on the passengers side.

Did about 110 miles to help tease out little issues following the restoration. The supercharger is freaking spectacular. I need to try and find one for my '96.

Gave her a little scrub and a quick run with the vacuum as a treat.

The green one has been my "project sanity" truck which keeps me busy when I am not travelling for work. This is the 5th one I have rebuilt and normally I would sell one but the cost of parts from any US based Toyota parts supplier is double what I used to pay our friends in Dubai so building another is probably no longer financially viable. My little 3rd Gen 4runner needs some love so maybe that will be my focus over the coming months.

I just drained and refilled the Auto Trans Fluid on mine this weekend.
I still need to do the drivers side (AU) swivel hub seal (did other side a few weeks back) but am waiting for a bit cooler weather cause its such a messy job and dont want to wipe moly grease all over my face :)

Whoops.
Did it again. 🤦‍♂️
2 spots this time, about 180 from each other.

Enjoyed a FULL weekend of wheeling!!

14hrs (79miles dirt) of seat time in ‘Tracks’ our 1983 FJ40 and then I had about 8 hrs (11miles dirt) of seat wheeling time in BIG Betty my ‘94!
I got a new badge for some intense hill climbs and hill descends! As well as crawling over a few obstacles that I would not think I could do…. BIG Betty is a BAD ASS RIG and my confidence is even higher now after yesterday’s adventure!

Going from the 40 to the 80 is so different… I don’t need to explain to you all! You get me!

More wheeling to come and keep my confidence building so when I head to the Solid Axle Summit 10 event in the San Juan’s I might be climbing Imogene myself! We’ll see… I wheeled Cork Screw and Red Mountain pass last year so I should be ready for the next level!

People tend to misunderstand the capabilities of the 80 series till they try one😁

We’ve been wheeling the FJ40 for 10 years… I knew what that felt like and we’ve both lifted tires in not so cool places in the 40. But with Betty it might have looked like too off camber like I was going to flop but she just flexed and crawled through. Large wheel base vs small
I GET IT NOW!! I’ve got this!
Let’s Go!!!
:steer:

Primo arm rest arrived....its Mehhh. Works but feels "clumsy" to me but it stays when door slams shut.
Would i buy a 2nd pair? Nah....(decided to put it on the passenger side)

Which gullwings are you installing? I was under the impression that gullwings just used the one-piece window weatherstripping and didn't need the runs and frames of the sliding windows.
