What Did You Do with Your 80 This Weekend? (60 Viewers)

The tank trails are in 29 Palms now. Try spending your whole enlistment there. If I could do it over I would have buried myself in debt on a new 80 and enjoyed the BLM more. Drifting corners in a hmmwv wasnt bad though. The Blue Ridge Mountains in NC may not have the rugged views, but my old 80 sure feels at home there.

Blue Ridge Mountains are beautiful..... but you can't wheel anywhere in them! The tree huggers bitched, and bitched, so they shut down Telico!! And I wouldn't wish 4 years at the stumps on anyone, let alone a career!!

Haha! Yes...I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels this way. Everything is so crowded these days...traffic, lines, people everywhere. :/ Would love to move somewhere less fuster clucked.

Yea, San Diego is beautiful, with hundreds of miles of off-road waiting on you. But I know how busy that place is too! 24/7 bumper to bumper! Going out there for "3 months of schooling" and working the border leave me in the "tourist" stage! I'm sure living there would wear the "tourist" image ( that I have) out really quick! But then again.... now that I'm retired I can just stay lost out in the wild!...... I'm sure the wife wouldn't mind! lol

Upgraded from 863 to 863J

Looks like its time to add some paint to the rear bumper next.

Hey Phil @LandCruiserPhil ,

Gorgeous truck.

Do you have lower spring retainers on the 80? (hard to see on the photos).

If so, care to share where to find those?

Thanks!

-Alberto

I make them. Not to difficult if you have the tools. Normally not needed unless you run long shocks or shock extension in my case.

Keeps springs in place doing this kind of stuff

The PO had replaced carpet with stockinteriors kit. Did a nice job but the carpet was cut a tad short on both sides of tranny hump.

So I cut some excess from the tailgate lid which wasn't needed and patched it in with some carpet tape and clear sealant.

Then gave her a bath :)

They are doing great! Was just talking to a friend about them today! No issues at all, they hold air well, have good traction, and seem to be wearing nicely.

Everything has its limits, and if you want to see them slide on ice, you can watch my threshold braking video...

@LandCruiserPhil , you add keepers so you can pose? ;)

Not that there's anything wrong with that, I mean, cool pose.

They were needed to keep my springs in place due to my shock extensions.

While others may pose for poser shot mine happen on the trail.;)

Here the action video of my line on the trail that led up to the picture. Starts at 2:10:flipoff2:

Haha! That's the problem with the 80, it makes everything look easy. In a psychedelic 60's sort of way.

I just noticed the scrape marks on the rocks taking a different line and figured you took yours for the photo-op. I find myself taking more challenging lines just because I can. Then I never stop for a picture because I'm like, "meh. That was easy." Nice vid and I dig the extended shocks.

You need to shave your headrest!

Mounted my Ultragauge that came in yesterday. For reference, I also ordered the vertical mount and mounted it sideways....ran the wire up the pillar. I unscrewed the handle on the pillar and the sun visor so I could pull the trim up to get the wire in there. I left most of the slack of the wire closer to the actual Ultragauge in case I need to program etc and need to pull it out a few inches....but all the wire is tucked up top.

I like it up there!!

I like that a lot better than my janky setup on top of the column. Is that bottom dash panel easy to remove? Does it just snap out/in?

Very easy....there is a screw on the bottom left...just take that out and you can pop off just the left side of the panel...not the entire panel. But that will give you enough room to get the connector end of the wire down there. Unscrew the LC's OBD port, put the screws back in the holes though so you don't lose them. I drew the 'oh $hit' handle and pull the A pillar off, unstewvthe sun visor screws...there will be a total of 3....and those basically will be removed so you can pull roof liner down slightly to shove the wire in there.

Make sure when you screw everything back in that you don't screw into the wire.

Entire thing took about 10 minutes!

Sounds like Julian might be your place.

Cool. Mostly I want to unhook that speaker down there, and route the cable a bit nicer with the setup I currently have.
