wow! I never even knew there was supposed to be a light! Do you have a part # by chance? Thanks.
The knobs and front cover of the ac controller come off and then there’s some screws and clips to remove. Search of the forum should yield a write up. Photo for reference.

During the initial full fluid service of my newly purchased HZJ74 RHD, the front differential drain plug was found stripped and freely rotating in both directions.

A simple extraction tool was fabricated to both rotate and apply axial pulling force to the plug. The tool was made using M8 class 10.9 bolts and a steel plate.
IMG_2977.webp

To ensure proper weld penetration, the drain plug surface was cleaned thoroughly. A tall nut was selected and machined slightly into a tapered profile to create space for a proper weld bead. The nut was then welded to the drain plug using a basic flux-core welding machine.

The custom puller was bolted to the welded nut, and combined rotational torque with axial force was applied.

After approximately two hours of preparation, the drain plug was successfully removed.

and so another welding machine proves its worthiness and pays for itself

Bench almost ready for powder coating. Then upholstery. Using 18 OZ Cotton canvas also for the front seat covers.

Nice work!
It never ceases to amaze me what abuses the 70 series trucks have seen, that we who rescue them have to sort out!

If I knew 3 years ago what I know now, I would have never bought the 75. At one point, you are at no return. Yes, they come abused (raped) and it takes a bit to restore.

What’s left is the frame, rear suspension support, 30% of the body and the hood…

That is an amazing amount of work. Well done seeing it through.
Here's to many great family adventures in it!

these are oem FJ cruiser steelies with 1.25'' wheel spacers on all four corners.

Tires are kenda klever r/t. 35x10.50x17
I'm running the same set up. Four years on and I've been really pleased with those kenda tires.

Mounted a Derale remote trans cooler last summer, but wasn't sold on the location so I didn't plumb or wire it then. Made several trips and while I don't wheel this rig hard... it did survive many miles of gravel, fire and snowy roads. Plus there is really no other location for it so I plumbed and wired it over the weekend.

Still run a front mounted ram air cooler. It's just undersized, blocked from great airflow and obv real sh1t when traveling slow.

Derale is located here (back side of my fresh water tank cradle) >

Ran hardlines down the frame rail and back. Used the power steering hardline brackets I had leftover from a PS refresh last year. Worked a champ. These were the bends in the front over the engine mount. The two rear hardline runs are fairly straight minus following the frame curve. Bubble flared the ends where soft lines connect to the thermal bypass, OEM lines and cooler(s).

The iPhone fisheye setting elongated this image. The soft lines are only 5" and 6" long.

Good fun. I need access to a lift. Crawling under the rig 3298742379 times to bend lines and what-not sucked. Had to come to work today to rest.

Two weeks ago, I took my annual trip down to Southern Arizona's OLC 4x4 to have @OGBeno work on a few projects on ol' Burro. Began the "long way" drive home yesterday, sticking to as much dirt as possible and found some nice camping... No snow up high, unfortunately, but plenty of sunshine (and wind).

Our winter has been so lack luster, I'm East oh Phoenix, today it hit 84*, I don't remember a day this winter where it was below 50* even at night. Beautiful drive.

Not seeing snow in the Chiricahua is terrifying. The sky islands are all bone dry. Scary!

Finished up the front and got stuck into the rear drums. Had a bit of a debacle with the front calipers after ordering 5th gen 4runner calipers. My mistake. Had the dealer quote a set of FJ60 calipers at 1200 bucks a piece. Luckily Cruiser Outfitters is local and had loaded calipers that were bolt on ready. So far so good.
Ended up getting their loaded backing plate while I'm at it.
Getting close to finishing up this project and bolting the wheels back on.

You'll be super happy with those loaded calipers from @cruiseroutfit. I put a set on my 60 and the pads that come with them are really nice. They offer great modulation off-road and are nice and easy on the rotors. I've got close to 10k on my set.
