What did I get into, just bought with over 1/4 million miles odometer.

You bought 14 year old vehicle with a 0.25m on the clock. If it took a dump tomorrow it's already proven its reliability and durability. It's not going to take a dump, but in the next 100k miles you will be entering the vague threshold of "service life" with respect to a variety of components. The vagueness is due to the anecdotal nature of the data and the small sample size. The data will improve as the series ages. To that end, just follow the advice above about fluids/maintenance and drive the hell out of it. Also, don't flush your transmission.

FWIW, I think you'd be hard pressed to find a petrol engine, in the history of petrol engines, that is longer lasting than the Japanese built 4.7.
True...True lizardking, and good point we don't have that many over 300,000 yet.

You say don't flush transmission...why?

It is not unreasonable to think that most people that are driving the wheels off these things are not on mud. I spoke with one person not to long ago that had more than 350k and they were certainly not an enthusiast. They simply appreciated the reliability, usefulness and long service life.

Agreed. A client of mine picked me up for lunch the other day with a '99 with 315k on the odometer. I expressed my approval and explained that I too had a '99 (with a lowly 198k) and wanted to talk hundy shop. While he liked his stock rig, he really was not what I would call an enthusiast. As stated above, he liked its reliability, safety and utility.

There's plenty of high mileage 100s in the 200-400k range on the forum. Some have replaced more parts as PM, while others have done less. The 100 is a beast either way!

Just picked one up with over 300,000 but well maintained. I had a buddy run a compression check on it before purchasing and we were getting 160-180 psi. Very impressive for a 15 year old truck.

I'm not worried about it in the least.

Nice. "well maintained" did you see service records or appeared well maintained?

Got it from another mud member. It was clear that it was in good shape, I trust him, and my mechanic was very impressed.
