The Walmart battery in the 60 finally gave up the ghost. What do you all recommend as a replacement? what size? whats the consensus on Optima?

MMM I HATE Sears, but that Odyessy battery looks like the way to go. Any Idea what size fits the 60? are they all dry cell technology?

The sears packaging will save you $100 for the same battery. That battery tray can fit a whole lot. I *think* I have a 65 in my 60 now. But I would have to verify.

The 80 series guys don't do too much fabbing so they deal with batteries a lot. NLXTACY is the king of these mods so i trust his battery recommendations.:flipoff2:

haha yeah right! I am only someone who takes the Rube Goldberg solution to everything but tries to make it look :grinpimp:

BTW, AGM batteries are very similar to Gel Cell batteries (Optima) in that they can mounted on their side, they have a sealed case, maintenance free. AGMs have very very low internal resistance because they use very little electrolyte and they use fiberglass mats between the cells, this allows the battery to be recharged much faster than standard batteries. AGMs are not as sensitive to charge rates as gel cell. You can get deep cycle and standard AGMs. The other benefit to being a completely sealed battery (AGM or gel cell) is that they do not off gas. This means there is VERY little risk to accidental explosions when jumping another vehicle or being jumped.

EDIT: but they are 2-3x times more expensive as acid filled batteries.

fwiw ive read lots of bad reviews for red tops

I use to try the Optima route for so long then finally gave up.

Best thing to do to make sure your battery lasts is to heat wrap it. Anything over 80º starts having a negative effect on a battery...which is anytime the truck is on. So heat wrap it and the issue is greatly diminished. The heat wrap I used also has an acid mat. Although its not something I need to worry about I installed it anyway. But it would be beneficial for anyone running the acid flood type batteries. The wrap was like $25

just popped for the sears version, got the one with the side mount taps for the multitude of accessories I seem to have accumulated. thanks for the help!!

you are being a little vague here 88.......tell us how you really feel.;):D

Get another Wal-mart. Good service and cheap!:D

i think i need to check out these sears batteries. mine is a cheapo waltozone something or other and tends to build up a tone of corrosion on the post. i've cleaned and coated it several times and it continues to happen. even ate through the stereo wire that the PO installed. probly not done correctly but i'm not too saavy on electrical issues.

I had cheap ones and expensives, and both had built up corrosion. There's not such a thing as "maintenance free" battery. I think its part of PM to clean corrosion when working under the hood. :hhmm:
