While changing all fluids on my 80 last week I had the transmission drain plug spin on me…think it was over-torqued in Ecuador years back when I had the solenoids replaced.

Dropped the pan and found a local machinist to help with new treads. Went up to an M12 1.5 pitch. 17 mm bolt. There was plenty of material left for this.

Reinstalled today and filled up. Took about 7 quarts once warmed up. Shifts very smooth.

Was really pleased to have very clean magnets and a clear screen.

Gotta hate when that happens but at least you were able to get it squared away. Speaking of tranny work, I need to drain and fill mine. Ill put that on my list
 
Had to jack up rear end yesterday in the 80 to track down a high pitch whining noise. Didn’t sound like worn brake pads, more like a wheel bearing without grease if I were to guess. Rear bearings were next on my maintenance list so seems I’ll be doing them sooner rather than later.

Any advice on additional items to replace/upgrade while doing rear wheel bearings?

Also did have to replace an alternator in the wifes Sequoia earlier this week. Easiest alternator I’ve had the pleasure of replacing tbh.

Get new hub seals and flange gaskets
 
Still plugging along on the 72. Power steering all mocked up. Need to blow apart for paint

Installed a 78 column in a 72 body. With a 60 series box. A little cut and paste to get it to work.

I picked up these inserts to male the steering drag link. A little overkill but easier than tapping a piece of DOM

Was able to wrap up the driver side rear wheel bearings and brakes today. Went ahead cleaned and painted some parts so took a little longer than anticipated but looks way better. Had the brake parts sitting on the shelf for a year now so it was time to install them.

Will plug along on passenger side this week hopefully.

Look great dude! Yeah the story of my life. Something that should only take an hour turns in to 4 because I start cleaning and painting.....

oh tell me about that badlands jack. I see it has some bigger wheels on it. Motor sports kit??

Just picked it up because I got tired of using my other jack with blocks, to jack up the axle. Comes with those tires and height attachment. Since a fair amount of the wrenching I do is on a gravel drive way, because my garage is a storage unit, I thought it would be better than the typical floor jack.

Does it jack up the 80 fully with ease? I am currently using a 2 ton ALuminum and it struggles to lift the 100, even just one wheel :oops:

With the jack under the rear pumpkin it doesn’t struggle but I wouldn’t say it’s happy. But I’ve also never used a real floor jack so not sure how it’s suppose to “feel” so to speak.

Yeah I hear ya on that. I had a Craftman I bought in like 1991 and just recently went with an aluminium one seeing that I had to keep it in the workshsop which is located in my basement. Man I miss my garage... I may go back to a good steel 3 ton

It wasn't all that bad but there was some pretty bad corrosion/build up (as seen in the pic) on the inlet nipple. Got that all cleaned up. Went to Lowes and grabbed a mortar mixer tray to catch all the coolant. Man there was a lot of coolant
 
Not exactly truck related but I've been working on some things at the new place. Installed new PEX piping in the whole house to fix some water leaks and got almost all of the drywall taken down on the 2nd floor to spray foam the roof deck (fiberglass was doing **** all and it was hot as s*** up there). Next step is install the new HVAC system and gas water heater to replace the electric tank and free up a breaker. Also made a few runs to the dump to get rid of everything. Its crazy how much trash comes from a room of insulation and drywall. Busy busy

Yup I got a 200k BTU Rinnai tankless which believe it or not cost less than a decent 50 gallon AO Smith tank unit and it has a built in recirc pump
 
I slid into a tree in WV and messed up my top and windshield. I was able to pop the glass out and wheel the rest of the weekemd. After a quick wash pulled it into the shop and tweaked the frame straight. Now need to get a piece of glass and I will be back in the game.

Time to fix the boo boos, and yes I did have a brand new glass in my stash!!! Haha. I had two more cut before I install this one.
