What are these connectors for?

When installing the UHF in the center console, I found these 2 connectors.
Are these supposed to be connected to anything?

It's been a while since I've had my center console out, but I think they might be for the seat heater switches. Do you have heated seats in your LX... don't know if they were standard on all Oz spec trucks?

Wilsil, that part of the console above my automatic transmission got fairly hot. I had a thermometer on it before but i forget the temperature. Might not be the best spot for your radio.

Heated seats in WA?
We need cooled seats. :-)

Hoser, that means that I have to find another spot :-(
I will have ago first and see how hot it will be.

Dont waste time... move the radio. Too Hot as hoser said.

I see all that room in the center console and it is very tempting to use the space. It's just less than ideal conditions for electronics.

I looked at one Yaesu radio and it's operating temperature range was listed at: –4° F ~ +140° F (–20 °C ~ +60 °C)

I doubt it gets over 140 degrees but it is on the upper end. If you had a manual transmission, it wouldn't be as hot either.

The radio will totally work in that location.... with excess heat from the trans the radio will run hot and be less efficient, putting out less power as the amplifiers are running hot as well as increasing intermodulation distortion.

The Yaesu will operate at 140 but I guarantee it will waaaay happier at 80.

Good point!

Out of curiosity, I stuck my fridge temperature probe exactly where wilsil installed his UHF radio and went for a 25 mile drive including the freeway. No extra weight beyond what the LX weighs itself, nothing towed.

Starting console temperature showed 55.8 degree (13.2 Celsius). Outside temperature on dash showed 58 degrees. After 25 miles, outside temperature showed 61 degrees. The console temperature showed 123 degrees. I shut the engine down and temperature was still climbing. After about a minute it showed 126.1 degrees (52 C) at which point I left the vehicle.

I know they aren't directly proportional but the console temperature read 65 degrees HIGHER than the outside temperature. So, there it is.

Point taken, now I have to find another location. :-)
Where did you guys put the antenna through? Which grommet did you use?

LOL
It may be hot, but still......

My UHF has been happy there for about 10 years.

Or, you could put it somewhere else where you hit your left knee on it, or your head when your getting in, or the cord gets in the way, etc.
The bracket for the remote face is at the front of the black shifter surround on the passenger side and the turbo timer on the right, under the ash tray. My phone cradle is mounted where my seat heater blanks are / were.
My coax goes out behind the glovebox and thru the LHS firewall grommit with the phone antenna coax.
Sometimes better not to overthink things.

Just imagine how much better it would work if it wasn't constantly overheated.

Yep - imagining, but I cant recall ever finding that it wasnt working properly.
Maybe GME makes better 2 ways than you guys get.
UHFs seem to either work - or not.
Next time I use it, Ill remember that Mud said I could have had it working even better for all these years and over 350000 km (220000 miles).
LOL
Cheers
