You are correct. it pulls from the fender... which is no longer there.... The air box is still there, just pulling warm air from the engine bay. I'll address that in the future.

Some PVC pipe plumbed to the top of the winshield will fix that :hillbilly:

LOL. too bad two car batteries won't run a 5000btu window unit AC! That'd be real cold air intake!

 now we're talking. Just this weekend one of our members was thinking he'd mount a 5000 in the bed of his LWB and vent it in the cab running off a small generator :hillbilly: Hopefully they miss that at tech inspection :grinpimp: I suggested stripping a used AC unit out of a junked rig but maybe he's onto something and he'll lend me a vent for the 80 at bedtime :D

There was a old man in a chevy pickup at the drag strip in Memphrica that ran a leaf blower as a cold air induction. It was a fast fast truck.

Get off my land.......but help me up.

Do you have any pics of your dropped shock mounts? I am needing to do this also.

Also do you have any more detailed pics of the bob job? Any advice if you had to do it again?

Thanks!

I am starting a (semi-)hardcore build of my own. Will start a thread soon as a buddy sends me some pics of what we got done this past weekend.

here's my thing about what i do... i do things very backwards, i do not recommend them to anyone, because if you experience adverse effects, it's not my fault that you copied an idiot.
That said... a picture is in my ROTW thread of the idea I did on Cattywampus years ago. i just did 4' rather than 3" in the pic.
Search for me and ROTW

refer to my answer above... however... I did use the Vlakvark pics from Slee's site for some ideas...
Chopping a truck... you just gotta do it. We would all do it differently. Once you do one cut, it may take you a completely different way than you thought.... if you cut, be ready to adapt. Don't expect the next step to be what you thought it was going to be. I spent MANY hours, no, DAYS out in the sun tacking sheet metal... and having to wait on rain days... it is not a project for someone with little time.

And PS... I'm no where near done... not even close.

Sweet. Thanks for the quick reply!!

I had the same idea for the front, I found some brackets that look just like that in my buddys scrap pile.

I guess the rear held up fine if you are doing it again, huh?

Maybe I'll buzz something in between them just to be sure.

Thanks again,

Ready... OK. I rolled around for about 45 minutes this morning under the junk. I've got a plan of attach for the rear end to get the crap out of rocks reach but pretty much keeping it stock, and even better.... CHEAP.
I must first ditch the gas tank.... going to a fuel cell in the back of the bed, but this project will be a while unless someone donates one to me... I must also redo the exhaust to rid myself of the muffler and cat. Neither project will be expensive... but more than I got right now...
On to the rear axle butt-lift!
I'm rotating the Rear mount lower control arm up on the axle... removing the frame-side bracket and welding a bracket on the side of the frame rail. These brackets are easy to source and are cheap and BEEFY... they don't need to be this dang big. Or that dang low.
I lowered the top of the shocks... but I'll remove that contraption when I eliminate the bottom of the shock mount... raising the shock 4".

Nice! I have been having a lot of the same ideas, specificly moving the rear shocks up at the bottom instead of down at the top. I wonder how much moving the lower links will affect the geomerty? I definately like the idea!

geometry? You mean like the class? I'm not in school anymore.
I'm moving the LCA up on both ends... if the geometry is affected at all it won't be enough to notice it on a trail rig...
I don't post much in the 80 series forum anymore simply because I'm a do'er not a discusser. I find discussers will always find a reason to NOT do something, while do'ers will try it, and then redo it if the first try didn't work.

I know exacly what you mean. ;)

the rear 80 housing you're selling would be a good candidate for the work I'm talking about doing on the butt-lift... all it needs is a third?

edit: oops... my b, apparently needs shafts and braking stuff too huh?

Nice. Very nice.

once you move those control arms up that drive shaft is going to be very vulnerable. not such a big deal now, but when you have the custom length shaft on there...

Maybe you could shorten the lca's or move the mount forward to point the pinion up and get a dc shaft made when you have it lengthened?

you could also cut holes in the bed and run some crazy long shocks up through them.

regardless of where the LCA's are... the drive shaft is vulnerable on all rigs... no way around it. The LCA's don't protect it.
I'm sure I'll be making a beefier shaft even before i need a custom one... I've gone through 3 driveshafts in three rides in 3 weeks before. yuck.

That there sound like poor spotting...... heck in the dark with a flash light we did better E.......
