So long story short I kept seeing coolant dripping off my transmission so I added dye to the rad and started looking. I originally thought it was my rear heater lines but from what I could see they looked like they were in good shape. At this point in time I had a terrible sinking feeling in my stomach and decided to shine the black light on the passenger side of the block where the head meets and then well the rest is history popped at the number six cylinder could clearly see the dye dripping down the side of the block from where head meets. Anyhow so I guess my question is should I tackle this my self or should I pay to have it done? I mean have roughly a month before school starts back up and I do have another vehicle to use but honestly I am not sure my skills are up to snuff for this task. Does any body have an idea what it would cost just for do the HG and head work. I have replaced the entire cooling system already and it has all new hoses and vacuum lines. From searching the forum it looks like vern maybe the cheapest? Does he do good work? Does any body have other recommendations? Any info is much appreciated

Regards,

Justin

Any ideas on what it would cost to have camel back toyota do the HG? I can only assume north of 3 grand because of dealer labor rates. Any other shops in town that do a half way decent job?

I say you get Doug's DVD and tackle it yourself - well, not really yourself, but with the help of others. I'm sure some fellow owners will be willing to help you. I can lend a hand as well if you're not too far. I've never done a HG myself, but I can be good for turning a couple of wrenches.

Hi - here at Camelback (with MUD pricing) that job costs less than 1/3 of what your thinking. I have a specific master tech that has done many of them over the years and recently a couple for some CSC owners.

PM sent. If youre interested, let me know ~

Thanks, Murf

way to hook him up, murf

Dave, I hope to see you at the CSC meet one evening if you make it up to Tempe on a 3rd Friday.

I am of the opinion that headgasket PM is unneccessary. There are so many LC out there with original headgaskets with 200-300 miles. I believe the key is keeping your coolant fresh and PM for overheating (good radiator, hoses, T-stat, etc).

Save your money and spend it elsewhere on your LC be it toys, maintenance, or accessories (it never ends!)
