Question for all you smarter than me tim the tool man taylors out there....

Where you weld two pieces of medal together and there is a portion of overlap... what do you about the covered metal... do you paint it before you weld... if so...does the paint get ruined by the heat of the weld?

What do you all do about the areas you can't get a paint brush to after you finish the piece?

Spray the covered areas with "Weld Through Primer" to protect them. Should be available from your welding or auto body paint supplier for ~$30/can.

Then seal the open side with seam sealer and paint over it. Don't use silly-kone;)

Never heard of this. I could've used this type of thing last weekend when I got my shins sun burned from welding in my drive way...

The sun burns I can handle... its when the weld drops between the toes of your shoes that I hate!

I had this happen to me a few years ago. I just wanted to tack a quick bolt together with a washer, and I was wearing my sandals. Bad idea. Got a nice chunk of splatter inbetween my toes....couldn't get it out, and it burned through a nice amount!!!

If you have a oxy setup you could wick some Brass in there. That would strengthen the weld by a ton... And brass wont rust... Its old school, but still a good way to go.
