Anybody else doing the flag day parade in your area?

We are marching in the Troy NY Flag Day Parade... It's the longest running and largest flag day parade in the country... Good thing is that it's only a 2 mile March :)

Step off is at 1300 (if your in the area lol)
 
Took a trip down to Florida recently... St Augustine and Ormand...

It was a living hell.....80-85 degree days, scantily clad beach girls, cold Corona's in the evening, no stress, no watch and no particular hurry to get back...What would Jimmy Buffet do?

Not sure how you guys in the "sunshine state" handle all of those "peculiar anomalies"..

Nice... 80's is great temperature....

It was in the 80's today for the Flag Day Parade... 2 miles ... In the sun the whole way :(

It was tough on the kids ... They were keeping hydrated with camelbacks ... But... Still tough

Our training officer rode in the jeep commando ... A kid ran up and went to grab the marine corps guidon that was on the car ... But that's troy for ya lol (kid was about 14)

Our adjunct is a buddy of mine (disabled vet ... Permanently attached to pain meds from combat injuries) he got a ride with other vets in a VA bus that was also in the parade... At the end of the parade most people got out (they had rides at the end of the parade) but him ... We got on at the end along with the MCL color guard and went to the upper parking lot not far from the parade end... Then we were told we had to disembark from the bus???

What about our ride to our cars at the beginning of the parade ( mine you it's only 2 miles) the Bus driver had been driving us for the past 3 years... Never an issue... This year he had a supervisor on the bus... She didn't approve of the drop off ... We had to get off the bus... Not happy ... Kids looked at us ....

Corporal Robb our training officer had is get in line and in tru marine fashion started to march us down to the cars at the beginning of the parade (she was in dress blues .. High Heals! Lol )

Got about 1/4 mile down stopped at a Stewart's for the 'head' and ice cream... We were needing a pick me up :)

The driver of the other VA van had heard what happened ... He was a marine in 80's ... Found us at the Stewart's and offered us a drive back !!!

He says ' don't send in a thank you or call my boss '

Great guy... What type of world is this that somebody will get in trouble for doing the right thing!!

Oh man, is that an M113?! *shudders* My last unit (as in the unit I left in Aug-14) had 15 tracks assigned - I hated those things so badly. Could never get the required optempo miles on them because I never had enough of them running on any given training weekend.

Fun pics though and it sounds like the parade was a good time!

I forget what years it was in service.... the owner told me I forgot LOL .... it was used as a movie prop in several movies

last year he wasnt able to bring it... it wouldnt start LOL
 
Please don't let this thread die... It was Jeff's idea and I think it is a great idea... But, unless it is consistently brought to the top of chat, it will be buried under all the other threads. If we can get others to join the Highway, perhaps we can come up with a real agenda for it... Something to make it stand out and thereby make Woody more apt to support moving it to a more prominent place.

I joined the U.S. Army right out of high school in 1995. While enlisted, I served in both the Second and Third Infantry Divisions (Camp Casey, Korea and Kelly Hill, FT. Benning, GA.). After my initial active stint, I used Uncle Sam's money attending college full time and continued serving in the reserves. After graduating college, I attended Officer Candidate School at FT. Benning, GA. I commissioned as a 2LT Signal Officer. I've been stationed at FT. Gordon, GA, Red Cloud Korea, Warner Robins, GA. I've been deployed a few times; Tikrit, Iraq; Baghdad, Iraq; and Al Kut, Iraq. Currently, I'm serving at Rose Barracks in Vilseck, Germany in the 2d Cavalry Regiment.

My dad completed a tour in the Navy during Vietnam Nam. Both of my grandfathers fought in WWII, one Army Air Corps and the other a Marine. My grandfather who was a Marine saw a lot of action to include Saipan. The WWII guys are without doubt "the greatest generation".

I've been on mud for eight years or so. Take a look at my photo album under my profile to see some of the trucks that I've owned over the years. Here is a pic of my current. Thanks!

I really thought someone would mention this by now... The Korean War started 65 years ago today.

Korean War, Period - June 25, 1950 – July 27, 1953

Please take a moment and reflect upon what our men and women endured during the Korean War...

I'm Marcus, U.S. Army brat and current U.S. Army service member serving since 2004 till current active duty the whole time. Been stationed at Walter Reed, Ft Bragg, Fort Sam and back at Fort Bragg. served in the medical field and now as a Career Counselor.

My rig is a 72' FJ55 all stock trying to get her trail ready again.

I would like to take this time to Thank all of you for your service and all you have done for our country.

Wow...what a cool thread.

I'm new to the forum. I just purchased my 2000 LX on Saturday. 1 owner, 98k miles and in great working condition. So I'm new to the forum and the world of the 100 series. I'm super excited. Anyway...

I'm Scuddy. I spent 4 years in the Marine Corps (2003-2007) I was with C Btry 1/10 out of Camp Lejeune, NC. Did a few tours to Iraq as a rifle company while attached to Regimental Combat Team 1 (2004-2005) and 3rd Light Armored Recon Battalion (2006). Got out in 2007 as a Sergeant. It was one of the best decisions of my life.

I haven't had a chance to read this whole thread...but I found it fitting that I put my first post here. I love other vets and trading stories about all of the cool things that we have done, so I know I'll really enjoy this community.
