So, yesterday my pickup began making a metallic-sounding rubbing noise when I drive. It is definitely more pronounced with speed (nothing to speak of below 7 miles/hr, louder as I go faster). It is there with the engine on or off, and does not vary with engine speed, but definitely increases with vehicle speed. Clutch in or out has no effect. It appears to be coming from front of the rig, but I am not certain of that. No pulling to the side that I can tell. In fact, if I was more deaf, I wouldn't know there was anything wrong.

Haven't looked into it further than that: just parked it so far. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated!

Dragging brake shoe?
Does the sound quit when you depress the brake pedal?

I don't think it stops, but, you know, I'm not sure. I'll try that.

If you break a return spring, I think it will let the shoe passively drag on the drum, but when pressure is applied it will stop.

Would that cause pulling to one side?

I don't think it necessarily would.
