Finally made it out to the local salvage yard to check out their FJ40 selection. 3 total and 2 were picked over and newer. Other was a complete 67. It was really rusty but I did get some good parts. I got the correct 2 piece hood that is in better shape than the early 70's hood I have. I still need the chrome spear if anybody has one. I got the hood sides that are correct for my truck. The one piece rear fold down tail gate and all hinges and the spare tire holder and hinges. The truck looked to have a factory soft top. I took the lift off door hinges, I cannot tell if they are factory lift off hinges or something somebody made. Did Toyota make factory lift off hinges? I also got the factory fuse panel with the clear plastic cover and misc other parts I needed. . The truck had the metal surrounds for door to soft top and soft doors that had slide up windows. All the canvas was gone but metal parts were there, are they worth anything?

Anything OEM soft top is worth money and getting. The tailgate was good find. How about the eyelets for the safety straps and the dash light from the soft top. The back of the fender wheels should have a little bracket with four bolts on each side plus a two bolt strap above it on the top of the tub. those are probably gone if the bows aren't there.

Visit the 25 forum, there are some people there who have the early 40s. Should be able to get most the answers to anything about early FJ40s.

To answer your question about the hinges yes Toyota made hinges that the door would just lift off after you removed the door stop and moved the door foward.

Major score. If you can go salvage those softop parts. They are worth the trip. The tailgate is a big deal, worth what you paid for the entire score.

IMO, go back with tools and get those parts!

I have the original F motor from your truck. Complete. Let me know if you want it for rebuild.

If you go back and the parts Living in the Past mentioned are there, and you would like to get them, and sell them let me know. Especially interested in the safety strap eyelets and the rear bow brackets. :D

Yes, the factory did make lift-off hinges, I think only for soft top doors though. On a couple occasions I've taken the shabby canvas skin off factory soft top doors and installed sheet metel skins. At a glance they look like hard top doors, but a fraction of the weight.

Did Toyota make factory lift off hinges?

You will need to get the other half of the hinge, the piece that is attached to the tub, in order for these hinges to function properly, as the hard top door hinge piece on the tub is not the same as the factory soft top hinge piece.

Get everything from that truck. There are multiple little pieces/brackets that you need to grab from the tub as well.

In 1988 there was a FST FJ25 in a local wrecking yard that was complete. I could have purchased the truck for 300.00us, and to this day, I am kicking myself for not picking it up.

I did get all of the door hinge parts. Will the lift off hinges work with my solid doors? I was very impressed how every bolt came off the truck easy! It looked like it had been sitting for a few years with no top here in Minnesota. The rear gate needs some repair on the bottom but not bad at all. I was even able to use a pliers to remove the rear chains for the rear gate.

There was a dome light under the dash is that the light you are referring to? There were some clips you would slide the top over and turn to hold it tight and strap down brackets all over. I could not get the rear view mirror off that is on thing I wanted. The windshield frame was rusted out and front bib damaged or I would have took those.

They wanted $750 for the complete truck and I did not need more than I took, all the bows were there for the top. 1 was bent but the rest were there. It was a complete truck with no roll bar. It had the rear seats but the support tubes were rusted bad and had 2 spare rims and all 4 original rims on the truck.

It was cool to see it siting their and I wish I would have taken some pics with my phone.

I will have to call and see what they want for the bows and doors and frames.

What are they worth and does anybody want them?

I looked at the light when I was taking the fuse panel and thought about taking it off the dash but did not, I should have. I found the title and fuse panel cover in the dash. Plates on the truck were from 77 and the title was issued in 74. Did not drive it long at all.

Do a search for OEM tops if the bows you seen are the same then by all means get them. A hint the factory bows with a one bow going straight up just behind the door and one in the back. a rail going between then with a cross member in the center.

I will know today if I have the rest of the truck to part out. I called and mad a offer on what is left of it. I should have it home today or tomorrow to part the soft top and sell the stock rims ect if anybody is looking for anything specific of a 67 let me know.

I once "gave" the original soft top bows and soft doors away to a guy and had no idea how much they were worth. STUPID!!! I also traded the original safety eye bolts for a 12 pack of beer! You live and learn. Simple rule, get the parts if you think they might be worth something. Throw away later if you find they aren't worth anything.

Later,

What are safety eye bolts? I am a newb to this stuff.

I am also now planing to clean up the tailgate and all hardware and have the little rust in the corners repaired and sell the tailgate and hardware to someone who is doing a restoration.

I am going to pass on getting the rest of this truck they want more than I am williing to invest, so if anybody wants to know where it is pm me and I will let you know where the truck is located at.

They want 300 for all of the soft top parts. Just a note the truck is rusty and all will need to be blasted and painted and 1 soft door needs to be repaired. Frame is rusted out on the bottom.

Tim

still well worth $300....somebody will get a deal :)

I agree. I fore-warded the info to another Minnesota member so hopefully he can go get it.:)
