So UC is going through the process of figuring out the best place to host our site. Back when we started our site having an unlimited amount of space on the site as well as unlimited band-with was way to much. But now it is really cheap.

Does TLCA have unlimited space and bandwidth? Can they allow multiple domains within that space?

If so why not make it a perk to TLCA Clubs to have free website hosting? It seams silly for every club to be paying 15 dollars a month for a website when they could pay nothing.

Also if it is unlimited space and bandwidth how about having Todd or someone save all the past and present TT to a FTP site within TLCA.org. This way they would never get lost as well the local clubs could have access to sub folders for local club use. Think of it as a library for TLCA clubs and it's members. Plus someone really needs to get a grasp on the early TT archives and get them all in one place. Scattered throughout peoples homes is not a good idea.

Heck I'd volunteer to get all the information together and get it on the TLCA FTP site. All I need is a green light and access to the site. I have just about every known piece of software to convert old files over to ftp. I also have all the different kinds of drives there are probably stored on (Zip, 5.5, 3.25, travan, dds3, dds4,) plus I have a scanner for any ones we don't have electronic media for and can convert those into a PDF file.

I think with a few simple rules and access restrictions to BODs of TLCA clubs you could keep it easily maintained.

TLCA is using shared hosting via Web hosting provider - Bluehost.com - domain hosting - PHP Hosting - cheap web hosting - Frontpage Hosting E-Commerce Web Hosting Bluehost
It's about $84 for the year. We don't have the ability to offer hosting for additional domains at this time. :(

Technically, I think we could do an FTP archive along the lines of what you suggest. I don't know how much time and effort this would be on the part of the Toyota Trails team, but I be it would be substantial. Also, there may be rights issues with some of the photos and stories -- I'm nearly certain that Todd buys first run rights 99% of the time, but that doesn't mean TLCA actually owns the stories and photos. It just means we have the right to publish them first in our magazine.

If there are things you want to personally upload, I'm glad to make space for you.

For about double what TLCA is paying it could have unlimited everything.

Sure would save the clubs a lot of money if it could be secure. Plus house all TLCA's records online.

Not exactly sure what you mean by first run rights.

First run rights - simply stated means that when Todd is offered an article & photos for Trails, the submitter agrees to not offer it to another magazine until it has run in Trails, if Todd accepts the article. If he declines the article, they can offer it to whomever they wish. It means that all articles & photos submitted to Trails run their first. Then they can be run elsewhere.

So does this mean we could still have PDF's of all the Toyota Trails storred on the FTP for the club officers to have access to them?

Sure would be another perk for being a TLCA member and being part of a local club.
