...of registering copperstatecruisers.org (Not .com  )
I also have free hosting for now. A friend works for an ISP
back east, and gave me a website on his server.
Unfortunately, the company is hovering on chapter 11, but
he'll let me know in advance if he has to take his server down
(or somewhere else).
I also have a friend at AOL who also has a server up that we
can use, but he pays for his bandwidth.
There ain't much there yet, but I'm working on it.
Got some ideas for layout. Educating myself on CSS/DHTML
to make it load fast and still look nice.

Anyone have suggestions for what to include?

Where were you last night? We had a good BS session at the happy hour.

Couldn't get out of work until after 21:00. And then the drive
to the other side of the Valley woulda sucked, and I have $4
to my name right now. :-\

But I graduate next week, so my work schedule will be more
flexible. :D

I "may" be offering basic hosting for club pages....experimenting now with a UROC competitors site, seeing what my limitations are (and if I'm smart enuf to set things up...lol)

I do my registrations thru godaddy.com, $90 for 10 years. Thus far, I have 5 there...maybe 6...hhmmmm...outta check...lol

BTW: is that the "official" club name? Should I rename this section to "Copper State Cruisers"?

I use Godaddy.com they have best/least expensive service for reg.

One of the best things a website can do is not be static. information about trails and AZ history would be entertaining. Fresh written articles of interest, and fast loading videos!

Yes that's the name but don't switch the forum yet.

DD- Easier said than done.
Fast loading videos are the Holy Grail of websurfing, IMHO.
If it loads fast, it's either 1.5 seconds long or at such a low
resolution you can't tell what's going on. :( That's not to
say we shouldn't include videos. Actually, I can setup
multiple delivery types for video. WinRAR for dialup,
streaming or complete MPEGs for broadband users. (And for
you Linux users, tar.bzip2. :D )
As far as 'not static' (wouldn't that be 'dynamic'?) are you
talking content or layout? Dynamic layout is tough, although
CSS allows it to be done. Dynamic content is fairly easy. All
you guys have to do is submit stuff for me to upload. :D
Further down the road, I plan to set up a web-database that each of us will have access to for editing members' rigs, posting trip pics or submiting articles.

Dynamic in terms of content :) video compression has come along way. Along with small fast loading slide shows. I hope to be able to contribute often. I think it is cool that you are into setting this up!

MPEG4 and XviD are definately big improvements. But it's still hell on dialup
users. And I'd prefer to offer non-proprietary formats (read: no RealMedia)
so people can view everything with freeware clients if they should so
choose.
I hadn't thought of the slide show idea. Animated GIFs work, too, for
shorter clips.
I've been into the website idea since before 3fj40 started the thread on
this. I even had a "Copper State Cruisers" folder with some basic HTML files
in it that I was tinkering with. I was originally going to try and start this
club alone, solely by web presence. Then I came here and noticed the
Clubs Corner. The rest is history. :D
And let me tell you, I'm sure glad it turned out the way it did.
Feels like our club instead of my club.

Ok. I'm resurrecting this thread. Deal with it. :flipoff2:
Register.com finally changed the nameservers for me. They now point to wingnut's servers.
We are currently sharing admin duties. He's more content, I'm more "other stuff".
The call still goes out for submissions, ideas, desin help, etc.
If you have pictures or stories/trail reports or stuff from days before the CSC got started, please send them to either myself or wingnut.
Do not hesitate to offer suggestions as well as content. Please. Again, this is our website. It should be a group effort as much as possible.

The site will be up later today. Work is getting in the way of progress. It is not complete and I am looking for comments and content to add to it. We can have a page for the logos if you want, I have one on the site that I took from the board but it is just a temperary one till we decide a final one. I am making a members page to show off anything you all want to say about your selfs and info on your trucks. I will post here when I get time to upload it.

The site is up. Don't pick it apart to bad it is still in need of some tweeking. I will have time to go over it this weekend so if anyone has stuff to put up let me know.
Let me know what you all think.

wingnut- A very good start. I like the layout.

Yes! Awesome job Kyle! I tried sending Tools some pics, but don't think it happened: I'll try again. Do we just e-mail you the bio stuff? Already got both of your guys' addresses in here somewhere.

WOW! The site is looking great. Keep up the good work KYLE! Also Kyle, don't worry about the logo thing DD is gonna cover it for now. If it becomes to much for him we may have you move it over. I sent a couple pics for my profile and some specs on my 40.

The site looks great, especially when you consider that it is brand new. Heck, it looks good for a site that isn't brand new. :)

I am wondering about the future of the members section though. If the club takes off, then that section could become a lot of work, and would most likely get outdated very fast. IMHO, out of date websites really make a bad impression. This is only an issue if it becomes a place that everyone who is a member can post to. Perhaps if we come up with some way for members to post their own without needing the webmaster to do it.

As for memberships, has anything been decided on as to how to become a member? Personally, I hope we don't go down the path of having to attend a certian number of specific events to be able to join. Given the fact that the vast majority of people here are up in Phoenix, it will really limit the number of out of Maricopa members.

Just my $0.02.

Scott

I doesn't take long to add people to the members page now that I have a master page built so don't hesitate to send all you want. Any bio or other stuff you want to send me for the site send to kyle@copperstatecruisers.org
BMAN, Thanks for the heads up. there will be times I miss things like that.

Also I could use a list of members and contact info like e-mail addresses.
